The first part of this journal entry will take the form of a plea to supermarket users worldwide. The two hours between 5pm - 7pm on weeknights are peak hours in supermarkets. These are the hours that people like myself who have to work full time hours Monday - Friday are forced to do their supermarket shopping. With this in mind it is absolutely imperative that standard supermarket ettiquette is followed at all times. Following the aforementioned ettiquette will ensure that your behaviour does not aggravate your fellow shoppers. Please note that when placing your shopping on the conveyor belt you should stack it to the extent that is reasonably possible. Placing every individual item flat on the belt in a single layer with plenty of space around it will not endear you to the people behind you in the queue. Not only is the person behind you prevented from starting to place their groceries on the belt and is forced to throw them on quickly in a haphazard manner once your goods start being processed but also the people behind them in the queue have to queue back out of the checkout area and obstruct the aisles.
Rant over.
In other news, my job is international! Last Wednesday we received guests from the Royal Library of Denmark and then had a conference call with our partners in Paris. It's a good job they all speak English as my French is awful and my Danish is non-existant (they told us that only 4 million people speak Danish so at least I'm not alone in that). I found out that .nu is a very popular top level domain used in Denmark. The actual offical Danish top level domain is .dk. The .nu code belongs to the tiny pacific island of Nauru. Apparantly someone realised that nu means 'now' in Danish and encouraged the people of Nauru to sell domain to companies marketing in Denmark. The profits from the sale are used to fund internet access for the people of Nauru. Well, I found it interesting anyway.
Another good day for team GB in the World Athletics Championships with a well deserved gold medal in the triple jump for Phillips Idowu. I get the feeling that that, unless Paula Radcliffe does the business, this is probably our last gold though. I will of course be cheering for Mo Farrah (I went to school with him you know!) in the 5000m on Saturday but I don't think he'll win.
We seem to be having another heatwave. It was absolutely baking outside at lunch time. I went for a walk up to Kew Green and was a bit worried about getting sunburnt. I bet it's cold and wet by the weekend.
