Back to normal...
Aug. 22nd, 2009 10:54 pmI've had my hair cut back to my prefered length. Hooray! I'd been growing it for a year so it could be curled for the wedding and it was way below my shoulders in the end. My hair is very fine and dense so it becomes tangled really easily. The longer it gets, the more tangled it gets and the more I break it whilst trying to untangle the knots. Now it's only as long as my jawline which is much more practical. I also think it looks better as long hair tends to drag my long, square face downwards. I wonder if people at work will notice as they haven't seen me with shorter hair yet.
After the hairdressers I decided to go for a walk along the Thames Path. I got it a bit wrong as I didn't realise that the Thames Path doesn't run along the Teddington side of the river. I ended up taking a nice walk along a road containing some ginormous houses until I reached Teddington Lock. I then crossed the suspension bridge and walked along to Richmond. I guess I walked about five miles in all which must count as vaguely good exercise. Unfortunately, the path is a bit flooded at the moment so I had to get my feet wet but it was so hot that they dried out again in no time.
This evening has been spent watching athletics and an episode of 'Outnumbered' that I hadn't seen before. Team GB won the bronze medal in the men's 4 x 100m relay. Jamaica got the gold (of course) and Trinidad and Tobago got the silver. I thought our team did really well but in truth we would have been fourth if the USA hadn't managed to get themselves disqualified for an illegal baton handover in the heats. I guess that's the thing about relays though. Everyone is always hoping that everyone else drops the baton or makes a silly mistake. The comentators were saying that Usain Bolt runs at about 40mph when he's flat out. I can't imagine how difficult it must be passing a baton at that kind of speed without even being able to look at your hand.
Tomorrow, Mo Farrah runs in the 5000m and I guess we have some kind of chance in the mens and womens 4 x 400m relays. It's been such a brilliant championships. Although I'm suprised the mascot (a huge teddy bear) hasn't received a punch in the face from one of the athletes. It harrasses them (pretty much molests them in some cases) to such an extent. Steve Cram has recommended that someone chucks it in the water jump!
