I spent last weekend keeping my friend company whilst her fiance was on his stag do. The aforementioned friend's hen do is scheduled for the weekend of 27th & 28th September. Her head bridesmaid, who is also one of my best friends, is a professional events organiser and is therefore super organised. The whole thing had been planned since early July. We planned to travel to Bristol, visit the zoo during the day on the Saturday, have dinner in a restaurant, go to a cheesy club, stay overnight and then spend a couple of hours at Bath Spa on the Sunday morning. The dinner, club and accomodation were booked through an internet company called 'Brilliant Weekends'. They needed full payment up front so I paid my £99 back in July. Until Tuesday all was well. Emails were going back and forth about travel arrangements and fancy dress costumes etc. Then on Tuesday night I received a text from the hen. Brilliant Weekends has gone out of business taking our money with it. Fortunately, I paid by credit card so I may be able to get my money back. I spoke to someone at The Co-op Bank and I have to write in so it may be some time before I see my money again. Many of my friends paid by debit card so they have almost certainly lost their money completely. I am now very glad of my policy of having a credit card specifically to use when buying things online. However, none of that helps the poor hen. Not only are her plans ruined but she also feels bad about people losing their money.
Fortunately her friends are rather wonderful. Everyone is being really supportive and alternative plans are nearly sorted. It looks like we'll now be spending time a bit closer to home in Guildford. Fancy dress plans have moved back a decade from 80s to 70s as we'll now be going to Flares which apparantly has a 70s theme. People who live close to Guildford are now looking for possible daytime activities.
As I said to the hen of Tuesday night - everything happens for a reason. Maybe the trip to Bristol was going to be rubbish anyway. I'm sure it will still be a fabulous weekend. I must remember to book the Monday off work.
My wedding outfit is still causing me problems. I still need a strapless bra. I can't believe how drastically strapless bras have gone out of fashion. They only have two designs in M&S and neither are suitable for this particular dress. I think I may have to order on line which seems a bit hit and miss especially as I'm not 100% sure of my size. I hate buying bras too. I can't get excited about buying something that no one else will ever see. Needs must though.
I bought a cardie and shoes in Asda today but they're both too red. The cardie will be going back tomorrow but I'm keeping the shoes as they're nice and were only £12.
Tomorrow will be spent traipsing around Kingston in the rain looking for pink cardigans & shoes. I now wish I'd bought a cardie at the same time as the dress. The trials and tribulations of being female!
I'm going to be up early tomorrow as I have to get to the sorting office to collect my ebay purchase before 12 noon. I'm feeling a bit bad as I didn't post my future bro in law's birthday card today because it was raining at lunchtime and I couldn't be bothered to get wet buying stamps. Naughty me. I might keep hold of it until I see him and pretend I'd never intended to send it.
