As someone pointed out it was better to receive a Clubcard Statement than a bill. At least the Clubcard Statement contained a £6 worth of vouchers plus some extra points coupons for things I actually buy. Additionally, I received two text messages wishing me a happy Valentines Day. However one was from a girlfriend and the other was a mass text from TEEF. Mass text or not, I was not impressed to be recieving a Valentines message from a married man. I wanted to have a go at him but I decided it wasn't worth wasting my energy on it. I have adopted the attitude that if I ignore him he'll go away.
I didn't have much chance to worry about my single status as I had an absolutely manic day. I was expecting a person to attend her induction at 9.30am but she turned up at 9am. Finished that at 9.45am. Discussed the outcome of a Job Evaluation with the chair of the panel. Offered a job through an agency. Got offer letter ready to send out. 10.30 meeting was cancelled. Green Executive meeting at 12.30pm theb straight into Common Interest Group meeting at 1.30pm. CIG finished at 2.15pm. Got post ready to send out. Meeting about induction process for interim managers at 3pm, then straight into a meeting with the Assistant Principal about a project I'd worked on until 4.45pm. My days are never normally that manic. I go for weeks without a meeting and then they all end up happening on the same flipping day! I'd much rather be busy than bored though.
In the evening I went out to Richmond Theatre with my parents to see a new play called 'In the Club'. It is a modern farce set in the hotel room of a corrupt British MEP and starred James Fleet (the chap who played Hugo in 'The Vicar of Dibley') and Carla Mendonca. The idea of presenting a serious comment on the politics of the European Parliament in the form of a farce was interesting and I quite enjoyed it, but I think it was bit too vulgar for my parents (a bright pink vibrator and a vibrating wanking hand were on stage at one point). At least it saved me from spending Valentines night on my own feeling sorry for myself. Shame I missed 'Ashes to Ashes' thought. The word on the grapevine seems to be that episode one was an improvement on episode two.
Today was Staff Development Day which is like a school INSET Day. The College is closed to students but staff come in to do staff training. Our regular HR consultant came in and ran a mock disciplinary hearing with us to give us some pointers. I was chosen to chair the panel which was pretty scary. Normally, HR people don't chair panels, we are only present to give procedural advice. Fortunately, I've taken minutes at several hearings so I stole my methods from one of our Assistant Principals who I consider to be an excellant chair. I don't think I was very good at keeping the rowdy defence side under control they were taking their roles very seriously and did a fair amount of heckling. It was fun though and I learnt from it. We got a free lunch too which is always good in my opinion.
Next week is half term. I'm working on Monday and Tuesday then I'm off for the rest of the week. Yay! I haven't had any time off since Christmas.
In other news, I have taken my first tentative steps in to the world of internet dating. I put my profile on urbansocial last week and two guys have contacted me already. This strikes me as being a bit odd as my photo hasn't been approved yet. Surely you'd want to see what someone looked like before getting to know them. Maybe I'm just shallow. Anyway, one of them looks a bit desperate and the other lives in Manchester so I'm not on the way to love yet. I'm also not sure that urbansocial is the right site for me. After I added my profile it asked me which adventurous sports I regularly participate in (erm that would be none) and which countries I'd visited (France, Spain and Italy - not very exciting). Most of the profiles I've looked at suggest that they're looking for a 'confident' girl which counts me out straight away.
I'm more interested in mysinglefriend.com which is Sarah Beeney's dating site. The only problem is that I have to nominate a friend to recommend me. This is proving difficult. The person who knows me best is TEEF but I don't think it's a good idea to ask him. My best friend from uni doesn't have internet access at home so it may be ages before she can do it and my other uni friends are so nice that I'm afraid they'll make me sound too good! Money is a bit of a worry too. The sites cost about £15 a month to use which is money I'll have to take off of the clothes and nights out budget. Also, if I start dating I'll have to spend more money on going out. I'll see how it goes.
In other news I've been invited to see Pendulum in May. Sounds excellant and it's ages since I've been 'proper' clubbing.
