I tried to do this at uni on Monday but I couldn't get cut and paste to work :(

My new PC is still in the box as I haven't had time to set it up. Last night I was on a nostalgia trip playing 'The Sims' when the 'old' PC crashed. Not only did it mean that I lost all that evening's gameplay but some of the other programmes were screwed when I tried to use them today. I had to uninstall and re-install AOL to be able to get on the internet which took forever. Grrr.

And my second DVD of Press Gang series two is cracking. Cheap DVD cases! I'll have to buy a spare one in case it breaks completely. I can't live without series two for more than a month!

My earlier update was cut short by an urgent need to: eat dinner, watch Dr Who and complete some uni work (in that order which can't be a good sign!) so I thought I'd better do a proper update before I forget everything.

I was quite angry after uni on Monday. Our three part assignment is due in on 9th June which is only 5 weeks away. I'm not the most organised person in the world but realising that time was short I started work on my assignments some time ago. Part of the assignment is to interview a non-HR line manager about the role of HR in your organisation. I work in an educational establishment which is fairly quiet for admin staff around Easter time so I arranged an interview with a line manager last Friday. On Monday, it was decided that half our Monday sessions from now on would be dedicated to discussing the assignments as a class. Now I've done the interview before the discussions had taken place.

I'm actually quite worried about this next assignment. The essays I had to write before Christmas were similar in structure and process to those I wrote for my first degree but this assignment is very different. Of particular concern is the record of Continuing Personal Development which is a requirement of the CIPD. At the moment my job is much more general admin than HR management so it is difficult to find situations to analyse. I have to provide a 'range' of reflections so I won't really be fulfilling the criteria if I only reflect on uni work and articles I've read. A critical analysis of how I emailed people to get them to hand in their annual leave cards for updating won't cut it I'm afraid. Unless I can put some sort of theoretical spin on it...

Oooh, I've just realised that 'Angel' by Massive Attack is in 'Go!'

Otherwise, it's been a quiet week. Work was very quiet as it was a strange week for us. We only returned from the Easter break on Monday and now we've got another long weekend.

Tomorrow, my parents are going to a big family reunion down in rural Surrey which is where my Dad's, Mum's family are originally from. My sister's going but I'm staying home. I gave the excuse of having too much uni work to do but really I just don't want to spend a day with a load of relatives I don't know. I'm in a bit of weird position as a single 25 year old still living at home. Too old to play with the kids or skulk with the teenagers but not able chat about my house, husband or kids. My sis will be fine as she's a Nursery Assistant and will start organising kids games as soon as she arrives. Most of the people there will be my Dad's cousins (my Nana was one of 11 so Dad had 25 cousins) and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I feel like a bit of a misery as my aunt, uncle and cousins (all more than 10 years older than me with children and grand children) will be there and I haven't seen them for a while, however I don't have much to talk to them about either. I plan to spend the day setting up my new PC so wish me luck.

Just read exciting news on 'Holding on'. [livejournal.com profile] violetcreme is organising a big Press Gang gathering for May 2007. It'll clash with my final exams but there's always the re-takes! I can't wait to meet all the lovely, talented Press Gang fans from 'Holding on' and I'm so excited :)

I've just told my best mate from uni about events over Easter. She's just moved in with a new flatmate and they're thinking of going speed dating. Not sure I'd be very good at speed dating. I'm always afraid I'd betray the boring person inside and scare them off.

Watched Dr Who again tonight and enjoyed it much more than the last two episodes. If my friend Phil is reading this he'll be cross as he doesn't think they should do episodes where they land on Earth in the present day as it lacks imagination. I liked tonight's episode though, I'm sure many children were hiding under the sofa especially as it was set in a school. K-9 is so sweet. I wonder whether they'll write any other former assistants back into the show in the future. Bonnie Langford is having a bit of a career revival at the moment after 'Dancing on Ice'... I also found out a very interesting thing a few weeks ago. The make-up designer for Dr Who, Sheelagh Wells, is an occasional lecturer at work. I've sat in the canteen with her on the next table eating her sandwiches! Yet another rubbish claim to fame to add to: I went to college with Rochelle Gadd (Olivia in Hollyoaks) and Angela Hazeldine (Gemma in Family Affairs).

Why is it that when I'm bored and need something to do there is nothing I want to see on at the cinema but when I've got loads of work to do there is something on I really want to see? I want to see both 'Confetti' and 'American Dreamz' but I can't justify the time out. I always say that I'll wait for the DVD and never get around to watching it until it's on TV. Cheaper I suppose.

That's it for now.
