I've discovered that my lovely long sleeved grey top is actually the top of a pair of pajamas! I did wonder why it had a velvet label instead of a normal one but I'm sure it wasn't with the nightwear in the Ealing branch of River Island when I bought it. Fortunately, I've only worn it twice in public. Sadly, one of those occasions was the university Saturday workshop last month. No wonder my classmates seem to think I'm a bit odd!
Also, I managed to order red wine when I wanted rose at my birthday dinner because I didn't realise the wine menu was in Italian. What's happening to me? I'm sure I never used to be this dappy!
In happier news I've uploaded four new userpics. They're all captured from The Prodigy Greatest Hits DVD so I hope I'm not about to get a call from their lawyers. I must say that I've really enjoyed the 'Their Law' DVD. The design is brilliant as I'd expect from something of theirs and I love watching the old promos. I also really like the Pendulum remix of 'Voodoo People' which is very much in big beat style. When I've sorted out this whole Norton thing I'm going to try and buy the two disk version of the greatest hits CD. I didn't think there was much point in buying the one disk version as I've got all the tracks on albums (and all but the most recent on single too) but it looks like there's some good stuff on disk two.
The 'Press Gang' spottings continue. Lee Ross appeared in 'Life on Mars' again this week and recieved another smack from a principal character! My mum (a big 'Life on Mars' fan) described Lee's character as being "a right idiot". It's quite odd hearing him do a northern accent but I think he pulls it off well.
Dexter Fletcher was obviously in 'Hotel Babylon' this evening. He didn't have much to do again this week so hopefully he'll be centre stage next episode. I was interested to see that the "next week..." teaser showed Keith Allen (who had a relationship with Julia Sawalha shortly after she split up with Dexter) checking into the hotel. I wonder if they mentioned her when they met on set? I don't think so somehow!
I went on a bit of a shopping fest this afternoon. I've got a new pair of long boots, a new pair of jeans (to tuck into the boots), a new belt (so the jeans don't fall down), three vest tops and two underwear sets. I didn't buy a new PC (I got a bit blinded by science, there are so many different types to choose from!) or an MP3 player (I sabotaged that idea by forgetting to take the specifications of my PC along with me to check compatibility). I also got a little wheely suitcase in the Bentalls sale. It's jade coloured and I'm really pleased with it.
My home town is undergoing 'urban regeneration' at the moment and they're putting up some 'affordable' housing. In an effort to escape my parents' home (for the third time) I'm looking into getting a shared mortgage on a flat. I would need to get a mortgage on half the flat and pay rent to a housing association on the other half. My calculations show that I would just about be able to afford it providing I can someone to give me a mortgage. I'll be sitting on the floor whilst I save up to buy furniture but who cares. It looks like it would be cheaper to do this than rent a similar sized flat which I'm sure I can't afford on my own. The thing that's bothering me at the moment is this: I take a lot of notice of scientific and political warnings about the world we live in and some commentators are saying that the planet only has two years left. If this is true I may as well stay at home with mum and dad and continue spending my money on consumer durables which make me happy rather than living in near poverty to contribute towards buying a flat which I'll never actually own. I know that I'm a natural born pessimist but hey that's how I am.
On a completely different note, readers of Empire Magazine have voted for their 201 favourite movies of all time. Of the 201 I've seen 52 which I don't think is a very impressive total. The ones I have seen are as follows:
192 - Romeo and Juliet (Saw it at the cinema. One of my all time favourites)
190 - Pretty Woman (last seen at friend's hen night)
187 - Boogie Nights (most of the way through, didn't really hold my interest)
177 - The Sound of Music (seen it twice which is twice too many in my opinion. I'll probably get hate mail for this comment but it goes on too long for my liking and it's just too twee)
165 - Dirty Dancing (of course! What girl of my age hasn't seen it a million times!)
164 - Blazing Saddles (saw it a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was OK)
160 - Scream (clever movie, didn't scare me much though)
158 - The Royal Tenenbaums (thought it was OK)
154 - The Truman Show (thought it was OK)
153 - Halloween (scared me witless)
147 - Good Will Hunting (thought it was OK)
141 - Swingers (got it out on video years ago. I didn't like it. Personally think it's overrated and 'Go!' by the same director is underrated)
138 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (saw it ages ago. Can't remember what happens in it, just the bit with River Phoenix playing young Indy)
133 - The Breakfast Club (great movie. Must get hold of the DVD)
132 - Airplane (made me laugh but not as much as The Naked Gun or Loaded Weapon)
126 - Rushmore (I've seen it but I don't remember anything about it!)
123 - Grease (a classic. Seen it almost as often as Dirty Dancing)
121 - Top Gun (reminds me of when everyone fancied Tom Cruise)
118 - Groundhog Day (thought it was OK)
115 - Monty Python and the Holy Grail (like The Life of Brian better)
112 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (really scared me as a kid. Kept going up to the loft conversion to look for flying saucers after seeing it)
106 - Speed (classic movie of my secondary school years)
100 - The Terminator (don't remember much about it)
98 - Superman (think I was still at primary school last time I saw it)
94 - Jerry Maguire (great movie. Shame it reminds me of my dodgy ex-fiance who was a huge Tom Cruise fan)
92 - This is Spinal Tap (great movie. Love the bit with the tiny model of Stone Henge)
91 - Shaun of the Dead (great movie. Love the bit where the main characters briefly meet their opposite numbers from the TV shows that made them famous)
85 - Monty Python's Life of Brian (great movie. Love the bit where all the different terrorist organisations bump into one another lost under the palace)
82 - Stand by Me (my sister is a huge River Phoenix fan so I've seen this loads of times. A great story)
78 - Toy Story 2 (saw it at the cinema. great movie)
73 - The Wizard of Oz (a bit long but I like it better than The Sound of Music)
64 - The Princess Bride (saw it during a 24 hour coach journey to Spain at about the 21 hour point. Thought it was OK but couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Should probably try and watch it when I'm a bit more awake!)
61 - Moulin Rouge (great movie. Saw it at the cinema with a big group of uni mates and we were all in tears at the end)
51 - American Beauty (saw it at the cinema and it's one of my all time favourites)
50 - Almost Famous (saw it at the cineam. Great movie)
48 - Return of the Jedi (hmmmm can't really remember what happened in this one but i'm sure I've seen it)
45 - Toy Story (not as good as Toy Story 2 in my opinion)
37 - Terminator 2: Judgement Day (too gruesome for my liking)
35 - ET (too upsetting for my liking!)
32 - Blade Runner (clever, but found it confusing because I missed the beginning. Remember being very excited when recognising the 'Open your mind' bit which had been sampled in a dance track)
30 - Some like it Hot (great movie)
28 - Die Hard (one of my dad's all time faves. Seen it way too many times as a result)
21 - Seven (great movie but a bit gruesome)
20 - Back to the Future (a classic for anyone of my generation. Great movie)
18 - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (was OK. Element of excitement was ruined by the fact I'd read the book shortly before I saw it though)
15 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (can't remember much about this one either)
10 - The Matrix (didn't like this much which suprised my friends who all loved it. May have been because I didn't see it until it came out on DVD by which time everyone had spoofed the bullet time effect)
9 - Goodfellas (saw it at Cardiff Bloke's flat. Thought it was OK)
8 - Fight Club (seen most of it but missed the beginning to was totally confused at the end! Also not keen on seeing Jared Leto - my teen crush - being beaten up!)
4 - Star Wars (I had no idea what the twist would be at the end. I was genuinely suprised when Han Solo returned despite the fact I knew they all survived for two more movies!)
2 - The Empire Strikes Back (Nope, don't remember what happened in this one either. Is it the one with the Ewoks?)
1 - The Shawshank Redemption - (Thought it was OK. Parents love it though. Confirms that, as I suspected, they have better taste than me!)
I think the only Press Gang cast member who appears in any of the 201 movies selected is Lee Ross in 'The English Patient'.
Ooooh, and we won a silver medal. In the women's skeleton bobsleigh of all things. Ice dancing tomorrow night. I wonder if Cardiff Bloke will let me watch it. I fear not.
Well, that's it until after Wales. Bye.
