And on the other side of the pond...
Aug. 6th, 2009 10:50 pmLooking at Twitter at this time of night sometimes reveals the death of a US celebrity, news of which probably won't reach UK media until the following morning.
As a result, I've just found out that John Hughes, director of many great 1980s 'Brat Pack' movies, has died at the age of 59. I love teen movies/TV shows and Hughes' work ushered in a new era. A majority of 90s and early 00s teen movies owe a great debt to him. The theme tune to The Breakfast Club is even played at the prom in American Pie (and I have it on my Spotify playlist!)
Rest in Peace Mr Hughes. Your later films were frankly terrible but at least you gave us The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller and Pretty in Pink before it all went horribly wrong.
