Thunderbolts and Lightening...
Jul. 16th, 2009 10:51 pmI hate thunderstorms and it's been storming here for a good couple of hours now. I'm not at all happy about this turn of events. It's given me a rotten headache. I hope it doesn't keep me awake tonight.
It must be giving birth week or something. Three people I'm connected to have given birth in the last week. The lovely Mrs Scribbles, the wife of an ex work colleague and the daughter in law of my best friend from my old work. All boys too.
Not such good news on the cute duckling front. There were 11 ducklings on the upper pond last week and now there are only four. The main suspects are the resident heron, the fox who lives in the car park by the bins and the cat from the house by the gate who is looking increasingly fat and smug. Ducklings are so much fun to watch though. They are tinier than the palm of my hand yet they zoom across the pond as quickly as the adult ducks. Then they go up the slope on to the path and flop around looking really unco-ordinated and ungraceful. They're so fluffy bless them!
My esteemed place of employment was on TV last night. Davina Mccoll was filmed outside as part of her episode of 'Who do you think you are?' You could see my office in the back ground. It was a really interesting episode. Davina has a couple of interesting and well known ancestors. Shame I haven't managed to find any in my family. There are loads of geneology books in the bookshop at work with the title 'My Ancestor was...' and then 'solider' or 'methodist' or 'miner' etc. As yet I haven't spotted a book entitled 'My ancestor was really, really dull and boring'. Shame.
I didn't think tonight's episode of 'Mitchell and Webb' was as funny as usual. I hope they haven't run out of ideas.
If anyone is looking for a new sitcom to watch I would recommend trying out 'Taking the Flak' on BBC2 on Wednesday nights. Not 'falling off your chair laughing' funny but a very interesting interpretation of BBC foreign correspondants covering a civil war in a minor African nation.
Right, thunderstorm seems to have stopped. I'm off to bed.
