It's a Bank holiday...
May. 23rd, 2009 10:13 pmI'm almost in a state of disbelief as it's Bank Holiday weekend and the weather is lovely. I guess I shouldn't speak too soon or else it'll tip it down tomorrow.
Obviously, I'm not planning on doing anything which will make the most of the nice weather. However, mum and dad are going away to Devon on Monday so I hope it stays nice for them.
Last night I went to the theatre to see an amateur production of Alan Plater's 'Peggy for you'. It was an excellent evenings entertainment. The play focuses on Peggy Ramsay, an agent who represented many British playwrights in the 1960s. Plater was one of her clients and in the play he creates a fictional day at Ramsay's office. On this occasion it was staged as a studio production with the audience sitting either side of the office set. This was clever as it added to the feeling that we were looking in on a real office. It really drew me in to the action. Peggy Ramsay was a larger than life character and the play was very funny. I'd highly recommend it if anyone gets the chance to see a production.
Today, I went to Hounslow to try on my bridesmaid dress. I was bit nervous as they'd measured me to be a size 6. Never in my wildest dreams have size 6 clothes fitted me before. I tend to struggle to fit into a size 10 these days. My friend reassured me that bridesmaid dresses tend to come up bigger than off the peg clothes but I was still worried. Fortunately, it fitted well. It still needs to be taken in a little bit so it fits me properly round the chest (oh how I love my 31 inch bust!) but generally it looked good. The alterations should be complete in a fortnight. Now I just need to find suitable shoes. It looks like my sister will be buying the same style of bargain Debenhams shoes that I wore to the wedding the other week to wear as her bridal shoes. Obviously hers will be white, not black, but I recommended them as the heel isn't too thin and they were pretty comfy. Unfortunately, all the pairs in the Hounslow branch were rather tatty and they were out of stock online so she's going to have to search some other branches. Fingers crossed she finds them without too much hassle.
Whilst in Hounslow, I also managed to pick up a card for the wedding I'm going to next weekend and a card for MBFFS's birthday which is on Saturday.
We spent the rest of the day discussing plans for the hen do. We set up a group on Facebook and wrote a list of all the ingredients we need to buy for cocktails. It looks like I'm in charge of mini umbrellas, swizzle sticks and indoor sparklers. So much for a sophisticated evening! It looks like it's going to be rather messy.
Future bro in law is on his stag night as we speak. Fingers crossed he's still in one piece and doesn't end up chained to a lamppost or something. His friends are proper wind up merchants so anything is possible. I fear that sis has a sleepless night ahead!
