Fangirl overload...
Apr. 14th, 2009 11:07 pmYesterday afternoon I watched 'Stardust'. What a great movie for a Bank Holiday afternoon! I liked it lots. The casting was a fabulous fusion of big US stars and random Brits. My two favourite fandoms were represented by Dexter Fletcher and Claire Danes. It also featured fangirl favourites such as Mark Heap, Julian Rhind-Tutt and David Walliams. Clearly, Matthew Vaughn has cast several of his old mates - Jason Fleymyng, Mark Strong and The Dex. Ricky Gervais (pretty much playing himself), Peter O'Toole, Kate McGowan, Rupert Everett, Sienna Miller and (an almost unrecognisable) Sarah Alexander also featured. To top it all off, it was narrated by Ian McKellan. However, my focus was a little different. Jake Curran who plays Bernard (the chap who gets turned into a goat, then a girl, then back again) went to sixth form college with me. He was in one of the other A Level Theatre Studies groups and there was always something very special about him. He has such a gift for comic acting. I'd completely forgotten about him over the past 10 years. In fact when he first turned up in the film I thought I just recognised him from TV. Now, of course, I've looked at his profile on imdb and he seems to be doing well. His credits include several episodes of the first series of Primeval. Wish I'd watched it now. It's great to see someone so talented and so genuinely nice doing well.
Claire Danes was great, as usual. She has such a unique set of facial expressions and they suited her role very well. She also looked stunning with very long, blonde hair. The Dex was also looking pretty fit. I remember seeing him interviewed about Hotel Babylon when his hair was still short from doing the film and thinking that it suited him. He was also acting with his own accent, thank goodness. Claire Danes and Michelle Pfiffer meanwhile, managed to maintain fairly passable English accents throughout.
Back to work today. At least it was nice and quiet, and I only had 118 emails most of which were agencies touting/begging for business.
