Easter update...
Apr. 13th, 2009 01:08 amI was offline for a couple of days last week while I painted my ceiling. When I returned to cyberspace I had a message on Facebook from one of my uni housemates inviting me to her wedding on 30th May. It was a bit of a suprise as I wasn't aware she was on Facebook! It is also pretty short notice. I received a text message from her last year informing me that she had got engaged but I haven't had any communication from her since. Fortunately, I am able to go on that day. I'm not going to know many people but I'm going to be brave! I've decided that I'm going to wear the lovely £25 dress I wore to a wedding last year. It's a completely different group of people so it's an ideal opportunity to recycle a great outfit. The bride is very religious so I will have to be on my best behaviour.
On Saturday me and my sister went to the hairdressers for a wedding hair trial. Sis is having her hair set which takes hours. I thought it looked really good when it was done but she didn't like the way it felt. I've never had my hair set so I couldn't really comment. I think she's going to look fab, very laid-back glam. My only concern is that it's going to take a long time to do on the morning of the wedding. I just hope the appointment is long enough. I'm having my hair professionally curled for the first time ever. It was done using GHD straighteners which was very effective. My hair is straight, fine and dense and I normally fail miserably to make it hold any style. However, this method seemed to work. The curls dropped quite a lot but they were still there after a full night of sleep. She didn't use any products at all so the style should hold well for the wedding. Next step is a makeup trial. Sis is setting up an appointment. I'm more scared about the makeup as I haven't had my makeup done by someone else since I was last in a school play circa 1996. Saying that, as long as sis is happy and I don't end up looking like Jodie Marsh I'll be happy.
I also saw an amazing dress in Coast which would be perfect for the wedding I'm attending on 9th May. Unfortunately, it's £160 and I can't justify spending that much. I really need to find something very, very urgently. I'm beginning to panic slightly. I also need to find shoes for when I'm a bridesmaid. Hopefully, I can find a pair which will do for both weddings.
In non-shopping related news I've finally reached the end of 'A Tale of Two Cities'. I feel like I've been reading it forever. It was so slow to get going. I've spoken to a few people who gave up reading it half way through so I'm not the only one who feels that way. I understand that Dickens' books were originally serialised and were like the soaps of their day which necessitates there being lots of characters. However, I felt that there were too many to keep track of. I'd completely forgotten about the chap who turns up to save the day and couldn't remember who he was or what he did. I also thought it ended abruptly. I can safely declare that it's not one of my favourite books. I'm now moving on the Carry on Jeeves which I bought for the bargain price of £1.99 in the bargain bookshop round the corner. I'm sure it will be much more enjoyable experience. I still want to read 'Little Dorrit' but I'm going to have to wait until a copy is back in library. The TV adaptation clearly encouraged more people than me to borrow a copy.
I'm still ill and drugging myself with Asda super strength decongestant tablets and Strepsils to try and tackle my sore throat. I hate being ill :(
