The worst kept secret in British television (since Dale Winton came out) has finally been officially revealed. The great Steven Moffat will be taking over as Head Writer and Executive Producer of Doctor Who. I wish him well. It is likely that he will soon be hated by Dr Who purists the world over. I've felt for some time that the episodes written by RTD were the weakest in the series. However, I really hope that he gets the credit he deserves. After all he bought the Dr back to the screen and has made the show popular prime time viewing.
I received a Google alert pointing to a blog in which the writer pleaded for Julia Sawalha and Gina Bellman to be given parts in the show. I would take it a step further. What about writing all the actors formerly in Coupling and Press Gang into the show?! Maybe the Dr could visit the office of a certain kids newspaper back in 1990 (OK, I'm being silly now but I did read a fan fic somewhere in which this happened) or how about chucking in a few 'significant' names to keep the PG geeks amongst us happy? Alien invasion of Norbridge anyone? Time rift on the Sherrington Road perhaps!
Seriously, I'd love to see Julia, Dexter, Paul and Lee guest in Dr Who. Some of the 'adult' actors (Sullivan etc.) would be pretty good too. I'm sure Steven could find roles for them all. Maybe Paul could turn up as 'Alien dodgy salesman'!
I really should write about last weekend. No time right now though. Sigh.
