Apr. 10th, 2008

I feel a bit better today. The decongestant tablets (or at least the caffeine they contain) seem to be helping and I actually managed to concentrate on some simple tasks at work today.

My freezer is still jammed, my mp3 player still isn't working and I'm nervously awaiting the next technical disaster. Will it be the hairdryer, the toaster, the stove or something else entirely? We shall see.

There is officially nothing worth watching on TV this evening. At 9pm the five main channels provided me with a choice of: A repeat of Who do you think you are?, Live golf, New Homes from Hell, A documentary about nervous parents who want to microchip their kids and House. I resorted to starting to watch 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' on Film 4. However, my mum phoned 15 minutes in and I lost the thread completely. A shame because I think I may have quite enjoyed it

Have been getting in touch with random vague relatives through Genes Renunited. Have now established contact with two people on my mum's, dad's side (the northern connection) and one person on my dad's, dad's side (the Kent connection). Dad's, dad's side is the easiest because we have an unusual Kentish surname. Additionally, that branch of the family don't tend to move very far. The girl who has contacted me is in my generation and still lives in the same village the family were living in at the start of the 19th centuary. This may go some way to explaining why I'm so unadventurous.

I just noticed this evening that someone else has added one of my much loved cousins to their family tree. It is obvious that it is the same person as their surname is even more unusual than mine. My cousin is has lived in Yorkshire for many years and is married to a lovely Yorkshire native. The person who added him is clearly one of her relatives as they have listed his place of birth as 'Down South'!

My thoughts are with my elderly uncle this evening. He was taken to hospital on Tuesday and had to have a nasty abscece on his neck drained. He is now tired, confused and unable to go away to visit family at the weekend as he'd planned. It really is quite rubbish being old sometimes, especially when you have many long standing health problems which get worse with age :(
