Go me!

Aug. 3rd, 2007 11:56 pm
I am feeling unusually accomplished this evening.

Firstly, I've baked and iced 18 cakes to take to my friend's birthday party tomorrow. This project did not start well. I went straight to Asda after work to buy the ingredients and other odd bits of shopping. After walking up and down the aisles for ages looking for the sugar I thought I had everything I needed. However, when I got home I realised I'd forgotten the cake cases and had to go all the way back again. Fortunately, Asda is only 5 minutes walk from my flat but I still felt like a bit of a plank queueing up for a 32p packet of cake cases. Once I'd got all the ingredients together everything was fine. I'd never attempted baking in my oven before but it worked a treat. Now I just have to get the finished articles to the party in one piece. This will involve changing trains twice. Eeee!

Secondly, I ordered my new TV. It will be delivered next Thursday as I have to take a day off work anyway for my flat to be inspected for 'snagging' (cracks which appear due to the building settling during the year after it's built). This was a big achievement as I've needed a TV since I moved into the flat last November but I've been too busy to actually choose or order it. I'm currently watching a 15 inch portable which is too small for my living room. Reading teletext gives me a headache. The new TV is 19 inches and has freeview built in. Hurrah! BBC3 and E4 here I come. Not to mention crap MTV shows on TMF late at night (MTV Cribs is one of my guilty pleasures) and 1980s and 1990s sitcoms on ITV3.

Thirdly, I am prepared for my weekend away. I've written the card, wrapped the present, ironed my clothes and checked my train times. All I need to do tomorrow morning is pack and make myself look presentable. This is vastly more organised than I usually am.

In other news, my parents have gone away to Dorset for a fortnight. This means that I won't be getting a roast dinner for the next two Sundays :( On the plus side I can go and mooch around their house to my hearts content. I'm planning on going down to pack up some more of my treasured books which were abandonned in my old room when my dad broke his arm and couldn't drive stuff up to my flat. I'll also need to water the plants at some stage I guess. Knowing my luck it won't rain at all this week so I have to go down nearly every day.

Ooooh, and it is official - I've passed my Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management. Even better, I got a distinction in one of my final exams - 75%! I'm going to be invited to an award ceremony in November to collect my certificate. The whole award ceremony set up at TVU seems to be a bit different to how it was at Cardiff. I think I get to wear a gown even though I'm not actually graduating (although I am obviously a graduate as I've already graduated from Cardiff, if you follow). I wonder how many of my classmates will go along? The only people I'm in contact with won't be graduating as they have to one of the first year modules next year. I hope I'm not going to be the only person I know who turns. Maybe they'll have a proper reception. I felt a bit peeved that the History department didn't have a proper graduation reception at Cardiff. My friends who did biological sciences had a massive marquee in the grounds of the main building.

Oh well. Off to bed. At least I can sleep easy now I know I don't have to do any re-takes.
