Random ramblings...
Jan. 28th, 2007 12:45 amIt's come to my attention that I haven't updated properly since before Christmas. I have so much uni work to do and so little time in which to do it that I spend half my life wanting to scream/cry a the moment.
Anyway, I hosted a party in my flat last Saturday. It was pretty sucessful taking into account the fact it was in January when most people were skint, taking exams or buying sofas in the DFS sale! There were 12 guests in all and I guess I invited around 20 so not too bad a turn out. Was very flattered that one of my uni housemates came all the way from Cardiff and another from Oxford. Nobody got horrifically lost and there was plenty of space in the flat for everyone. It wasn't a hard drinking party, just a nice opportunity for people to get together and chat. The food disappeared quickly but I still didn't manage to shift the Harvey Nichols biscuits rejected from work (unwanted Xmas present from an agency - horrible flavours). I've now given them to my mum who likes horrible flavoured biscuits. The last guests left at 11.30pm and I'd tidied up within an hour. Lovely pressies from everyone: necklace, vase, flowers, vinigerette dressing maker, selection of coffees (now is the time to pop round for coffee, people!), egg time (very useful), glass worktop saver and Chinese cookery set. Also managed to find someone to share a hotel room with me at the Easter Saturday wedding (no, I didn't pull, I'm sharing a twin room with a friend) which was a bonus.
I've been on leave from work since Tuesday as I'm revising for exams in Learning and Development (evil but with a high pass rate) and Employee Reward (less evil but with a low pass rate). The exams are next Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm afraid, very afraid. Passing first time is preferable as you can only get a maximum mark of 50% (the minimum pass mark) if you have to re-take. I'm currently running at an average of around 65% and I'd like to keep it that way or push it higher if at all possible. As soon as I return to work after the exams I have to start interviewing people at work for my Management Report. No rest for the wicked. I'm definitely having a year off of studying at least after I finish this course in July.
On a slightly different topic, I only saw the Thursday and Friday episodes of Hollyoaks this week but, oh my goodness, they were good. Hollyoaks gets such a bad press for being full of terrible acting and weak plots but I'm sure most of it is from people who haven't watched it since 1995 (when granted, it was full of terrible acting and weak plots). The John-Paul, Craig, Hannah, Sarah storyline has drawn me in big time. I genuinely feel for the characters and I wanted to smack Rhys Ashworth when he took advantage of Sarah in Fridays episode. Poor John-Paul though and poor Hannah. She needs a nice guy to look after her but everyone around seems to be gay or related to her. I hope she gets it on with Gilly. I'm also desperate to find out what happens next with Clare and Max. I adore Max and can't bear to see him hurt. Mandy's coming back soon though. Hopefully, she'll sort Clare out.
Need to give up eating Cadbury Mini-Eggs. In fact need to give up eating chocolate altogether. Need to figure out a way of losing my love handles before the wedding so I can wear a slinky dress.
I've been on my own in the flat pretty much all day for a nearly a week now. I'm just about starting to get lonely. By the end of the exams I'll be stir crazy. On the plus side, I've done all my laundry. I have do many clean clothes I've run out of coat hangers. The first task after the exams is to go to Kingston and try and find a new coat. Mine is literally falling apart and I'll be needing a decent coat for the February Hen Weekend in the Gloucestershire countryside. It's so remote that they provide torches so you can find your way back from the pub!
A random, slightly Press Gang type thing I've not got around to mentioning yet. I didn't go out this New Year. Instead I stayed at home with Mum and Dad and we watched Jools Holland as is the family tradition (mum and dad like big band music). Amongst the celebrity guests were Jennifer Saunders, Ade Edmondson, Dawn French and Lenny Henry. They were sitting in the front row and somewhere in the behind them Julia Sawalha was lurking. I only know this because at one point Jools was going around the room randomly shouting "is there any indecency going on over here" (or something very similar) and when he got to their table Jennifer (who was standing up and facing behind) turned round and said something along the lines of "oh she's alway indecent, Sawalha". Blink and you would've missed it. I couldn't actually spot Julia in the audience but I'd love another look to slow motion it and try. The reason I thought this was interesting (other than being a shameless Julia Sawalha fangirl) was that other guests that evening included Alan Davies (who was very high profile) and Keith Allen (also sitting in the background somewhere). No wonder she was hiding!
Also on a random Press Gang vibe, Lucy Benjamin was 'spotted' in Heat this week. She was walking with her husband and baby in Essex. Not very exciting but at least she's still famous enough to make 'spotted'.
