It's cold...
Jan. 24th, 2007 01:19 amThis is almost certainly the coldest it's been since I moved into the flat. The block storage heater which comes on when the temperature in the living room falls below 20 degrees has been coming on every few minutes throughout the day. Despite this I've still been feeling cold whilst revising. No snow as yet though.
I'm off work this week revising for my first set of stage two CIPD exams which are next Tuesday and Wednesday. Early this afternoon I popped into town to run some errands (dry cleaning, recycling, supermarket shopping and collecting parcel). I took my camera with a view to taking a project 365 photo of something more interesting than the inside of my flat but it was just too chilly to stand still. The walk round to the Royal Mail Delivery Centre to collect my parcel was interesting as I couldn't find the place. I've been there before on several occasions and every time I managed to get lost. My excuse is that all the buildings on the industrial estate where it's located (now being described as a 'commerce centre' on the signs) look the same. It was actually quite depressing walking around the iron warehouse & car park jungle in the cold mainly because I had to walk past the army base on the way. There's always been an MoD Ordanance base at the centre of town, just off of the high street. Surrounding it was an estate of houses for army families. There were never many soldiers at the base (map makers are usually civilians) but the houses were used as an overflow for the families of soliders based at the barracks in Hounslow. Some of the kids would attend my school for a term or two before moving on. Several years ago the houses were purchased by a private company and sold to private buyers. Consequently, the community social buildings (nursery, bar etc.) around the site were boarded up. Now it's like a ghost town walking through the area. Where there were once children playing and mums standing chatting in front gardens there's nothing. The children's play area on the green at the centre of houses has gone and it's been landscaped over. It all seemed rather sad.
On the plus side I now have my parcel. Thank you, Keladeekadys! I watched it whilst eating my dinner tonight. A vast improvement on Holby City which I normally end up watching on Tuesdays.
