I've been a naughty girl again.
Earlier this week my best friend from school invited me to a mini reunion with some of the people who used to work with us at Homebase whilst we were doing our A-Levels. The reunion was to be held in Richmond, she was driving and didn't want to stay out too late because she had to be up early for work on Saturday morning. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go because I was really tired and needed to do some uni work but then I thought 'what the hell!' I hardly ever go out these days and it'd be good to catch up with people. I planned to have a couple of glasses of wine to get me a bit merry and chatty but certainly not to enter a heavy drinking session. That would've been really unwise as I was planning on getting up early on Saturday morning to nip into Hounslow to pick up a Christmas tree before it got too busy.
It all started well. Chatted to some people I hadn't seen for five years and nobody had turned up who I didn't want to talk to. Brought my mate a Coke and made my first glass of wine last over an hour. Sadly it went downhill from there. It all started getting a bit suspicious when two people who were in our year at school but weren't connected to Homebase arrived in the pub. Then it turned out that the Homebase do had, unbenown to us, been merged with the birthday celebration of someone we used to go to school with by someone who had been invited to both. Three more glasses of wine followed at speed to give me some 'dutch courage' to speak to these people I hadn't seen for 10 years or more. This was unwise. I actually felt fine whilst at the pub and on the drive home. When I eventually arrived home I logged on to supposedly do some uni work (it wasn't actually that late) and discovered that I'd lost the ability to type. Clearly the later alchol had now caught up with me. I then passed out in bed with all my clothes on including my contact lenses and slippers. When the first train woke me up at 7am I tried to get up and get ready to go shopping but I felt so ill I just took my contact lenses out, put on my pajamas and went back to bed. I couldn't sleep because I never can during the day so just lay there feeling sorry for myself. I tried to get up again at about midday, made it as far as the sofa, watched 'Charmed', then felt dreadful and crawled back to bed again. This time I did manage to go to sleep but woke up with a start following a scary fucked up dream involving someone breaking into my flat from the floor below through the oven!
I finally got up in time to watch 'Strictly Come Dancing'. In conclusion, I have completely wasted a day in which I planned to do lots. It has, however, saved me money in food as I haven't managed to eat anything yet.
So now I'm feeling very sorry for myself and trying to cram a whole day of stuff into an evening. So far I've cleaned the kitchen, phoned a friend, done two loads of laundry and written my Christmas cards. Shame the shops aren't still open...
My problem is that I'm painfully, painfully shy and generally have problems knowing what to talk about to people I don't know well. If I have a couple of drinks I loosen up a lot and even if I do talk rubbish to them at least I can blame the drink. Unfortunately, once I've had a couple of drinks, nowadays, I seem to loose my marbles completely and have a couple more which I usually drink too fast. This is why I try and avoid social situations where I don't know many people. Generally, I don't drink at all except for a glass of wine with my parents at Sunday dinner but a couple of times a year I just seem to feel the need to loose it.
In other news...
Can't believe that Louisa was voted off of 'Strictly Come Dancing'. I agree that Emma should be in the semi finals but not at Louisa's expense. Saying that I kind of agree that Mark and Matt should be in too as they didn't have any dancing experience at all before the show and they've done so well. I think having people like Emma in the show is a bit of swizz as she is a trained dancer (albeit not a ballroom dancer) and used to learning routines. She has a significant advantage over people who've never danced before at all.
Random 'Press Gang' related spotting of the week was a very young looking Nick Stringer (aka Mr Sullivan) attempting to sell Ronnie Barker a washing machine in an episode of 'Open All Hours'.
Also the first series of 'Trevor's World of Sport' is being repeated on radio four on Wednesday evenings. Paul Reynolds has a significant supporting role in the series which was boring when it was adapted for TV but very funny on the radio. Quite unlike 'Rubbish' the last radio comedy Paul featured in which was (cough) rubbish.
My day of feeling rubbish was not helped by someone with a 'Dukes of Hazzard' car horn constantly letting it off as they drove up and down the High Street. Grrrrr.
Brentford FC haven't been doing very well of late. Last weekend they lost 4-0 so I was pleased to see that they managed a 1-1 draw today. This news will cheer up my friend up who works for the club significantly. Fulham, my dad's club, meanwhile lost 4-0 this week.
And to top things off... last night the sister of the birthday boy, who I'd never met before in my life, informed me that I shouldn't have bought a flat where I did as they will go down in value. Great.
And the f**ker with the horn is still at it at 11.33pm. Some people are very irritating.
