Still hanging on the telephone
Nov. 15th, 2006 08:53 pmJust in case anyone reading this journal isn't already completely bored with hearing about my current mobile phone related problems...
Following the assurance from the Customer Services Supervisor that I would receive a phone call from the fabled 'Security Team' today I borrowed my mum's mobile. Unsuprisingly I hadn't heard anything by lunch time so I called Customer Services again and was assured that someone would phone me back within the hour. An hour later I still hadn't received a call so I called Customer Services again. They told me they were 'escalating' me so I'd get a call back. Half an hour later at 3pm I went into a meeting for around an hour. Suprise, suprise they called me whilst I was in the meeting so I was unable to answer. As the 'Security Team' (if they really exist) only ever make one call every 24 hours and there's no way of calling them I'm stuck again.
At 7.30 this evening I phoned Customer Services again (if anyone's counting that's the third time today) and moaned again. The guy this evening stated that the security team were 'a law unto themselves'. He also informed me that my phone had been barred because of something I'd done with my SIM card. It was a very big reason but he wasn't allowed to inform me what it was, only the security team could do that. He then asked for my patience! I was, almost, gobsmacked. Haven't I been being patient for 12 days already! Well no, not really but still that's not the point.
I can't figure out what I did to my sim card. As far as I'm aware it's been sitting happily in my phone since I purchased them together last year. I don't do anything unusual with my phone. I text, make the odd phone call and very occasionally send a picture message or surf the web. I don't top up very often as I communicate with most people via email these days. The only unusual thing I'd done before the cut off was attemp to top up online. It wasn't the first time I'd topped up online but I usually top in Tesco because I get Clubcard points that way. The online top up failed which didn't suprise me as I'd only recently changed my address with the bank and I forgot to change the address on the site first. Unfortunately, when I tried to change my address on the site it wouldn't let me as the postcode for my newly built property isn't on their software yet. I don't understand why putting the wrong credit card details in would lead to my phone being cut off though. I've done it before on other sites and it's just invited me to try again.
Rant over.
On a happier note I stayed up saw the final episodes of Arrested Development on Sunday night. If anyone hasn't seen it please go and rent it or download it or something. It's so random and funny. I loved the comment in the second to last episode about Hollywood shows being 'so detailed' these days which was followed by people taking props they needed out of empty cupboards for the rest of the episode. It's so cleverly done, I have no idea how the actors could keep straight faces whilst filming it. And Ron Howard turning up in the final scene was pure genius. The man may be a serious movie maker but he hasn't lost his sense of humour.
In 'slightly random' news this week, I've just discovered that A J Langer (Rayanne in My So-Called Life) is now married to the son and heir of the Earl of Devon. If you go to the Rex Features website and do a search for her real name Allison Joy Langer you will be comfronted with photos of her wearing a nasty brown woolly jumper wandering around the grounds of Powderham Castle in Devon with her hubby. She's on the official family tree and everything.
