One week and counting...
Oct. 6th, 2006 08:16 pmFinally exchanged contracts on the flat today so I'm almost a home owner now. I'll be completing next Friday, then we can start putting up curtains etc. It's all very exciting, but at the same time fairly scary.
I now owe the solictors £1700 which needs to be in their account before Friday. I tried to set up a bank transfer today but they wouldn't let me do it without two pieces of ID which I didn't have. The cashier suggested that I take the money out in cash and pay it into a branch of the solicitors' bank in person! What a fantastic idea. If I'd done that and been mugged in between the two banks I wouldn't have a penny left to my name. Unfortunately, I'm Now going to have to get up early tomorrow morning to sort it out :( I don't do early on Saturdays! Additionally, I got absolutely soaked walking to the bank, which is just over the road from work, at lunch time and it was all a wasted journey. Grrrr.
This week has been soooo busy. Monday I started my second year at uni, Tuesday was Brownies as usual, Wednesday I sorted some papers out and yesterday I went out for dinner with my uni friends. Tomorrow night I'm going out with my sister and her boyfriend to see
laurasplog do stand up in Kingston. I must remember to put a note on her blog to let her know I'll be there. I've never been to a stand up night before so I'm a bit apprehensive. I hope it's not the sort of night which involves widespread humiliation of the audience because I won't like being picked on.
Dinner last night was fun. Met up with the usual crowd of uni friends and caught up with their news. Admired the very sparkley new engagment ring of one friend and heard about the proposal in greater detail. I now know a great deal more about different cuts of diamond than I did before. We went to a restaurant on Lavender Hill called Firezza which is primarily a pizza delivery outfit. They serve pizza by the 1/4 metre so we each chose a different topping and ate loads. The toppings were a bit different to the usual and the food was lovely. Also had a couple of glasses of wine following two teetotal months which cheered me up greatly! In a fairly typical demonstration of blondness I left my umbrella behind in the restaurant. Honestly, I've lost so many umbrella's over the last few years. The fact that I remember where I left it this time is an improvment on normal. Usually, I just arrive home without it and have no idea where I last had it. My ex-housemate still has the umbrella she bought during the first couple of weeks at uni (it rains alot in Cardiff so umbrella salespeople do a roaring trade in freshers week!) My mother has suggested that I tie an umbrella to my wrist with a bit of string. I'm not sure how practical that idea is though!
I arrived home from Clapham at 10.45pm, just in time to catch a new comedy drama called 'Rubbish' on Radio 4. Under normal circumstances I don't get excited about Radio 4 programmes, especially ones which are on after dinner, but this one featured the legendary Paul Reynolds (only legendary if you are a Press Gang fan I guess) who rarely appears anywhere. I listened to the whole thing, which I didn't find very funny, and Paul had approximately two lines, both in the final 5 minutes. The things we Press Gang fans do to spot our idols! The Radio Times seems to suggest that Paul's character has more to do in next weeks episode though so I'll tune in again. I'm now very please that I purchased a Zen MP3 player with radio tuner instead of an ipod as it means I don't have to admit to my parent that I'm enjoying something on Radio 4. I spent most of my teenage years declaring it boring and rubbish and saying only old fogies listened to it. They would have a field day taking the mick if they knew my little secret!
I want to go and see 'The Devil Wears Prada' but I think I'd ought to save my pennies for furniture though. I've got almost all I need for the bedroom bar bookshelves, lampshade and curtains. Additionally, my lovely alarm clock with the purple numbers keeps randomly resetting itself so I may need to invest in a new one. My sister and her boyfriend are hiring a van on 14th October so I can get my sofa from Ikea and the rest I'll be ordering at Argos to hopefully arrive during half term week. I think the weekend after next will be all about putting up blinds. There's so much to think about. I'll have to remember to phone BT about a phone line etc. etc. etc.
I note from the Hollyoaks website that the inside soap awards were held a couple of weeks ago. Hollyoaks only won a single award :( I think they should introduce a soap version of the 'Razzies' then the 'Oaks would win loads. The guy who plays Foz would definitely win Worst Actor. He's so wooden I hear they're considering replacing him with a wardrobe! It's such a shame as does so many scenes with Jessica Fox (Nancy) who is very talented.
I finished reading 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' last Saturday night. I half wish I hadn't read it now because it's made me soooo desperate for the next one and it's not going to be out for ages. I haven't read a book in a long time which has moved me so much. Saying that, the last few books I've read have been about HR management so...
