Weekend world...
Jun. 18th, 2006 08:02 pmFor once, I've had an eventful and enjoyable weekend.
On Saturday I went to Oxford to attend a friend from uni's 27th birthday party during the day and then met up with another uni friend for dinner in the evening.
Today (Sunday) I was a marshall at an event called 'Pants in the Park' for Prostate Research UK. My friend is their events assistant and I'd been promising to help out with an event for ages. I got to wear a sexy bright yellow vest and point fun runners in the right direction. Really, I wanted to take part as it was only 5km and the emphasis was on fun rather than speed but my friend needed helpers so I followed the Brownie motto and offered to 'Lend a Hand'.
Oxford was great as I met up with girls I used to live with at uni who I hadn't seen for ages. Two of them are married now and they put me to shame as they're really busy but still find time to each maintain an allotment. I'm just too lazy I'm afraid plus I hate getting dirty.
Like the big doofus I am I've forgotten to renew my 1 week loan library books this week. I'm up to £4 in fines now :( I'm blaming work as for some reason they block access to the TVU library catalogue and I forget when I'm at home.
Everything's going well with my Zen. I've worked out how to apply my own genres to tracks when I don't agree with gracenote and I managed to remove the 80 blank Artful Dodger tracks I installed by accident without incident. I've been listening in 'shuffle' mode which is reminding me of tracks I'd forgotten about. Unfortunately, I keep getting the little indents from dance albums which don't make much sense on their own, for example the 'I've decided to take my work back underground to stop it falling into the wrong hands' bit on 'Music for the Jilted Generation' which has been radomly selected 3 times in three days. Sometime this week I'll sort out how to do playlists.
One of the friends I met up with at the party has been reading this journal a bit (hello if you're reading this!) She's an occupational psychologist and I was chatting to her about the whole blogging thing and how sad I am that some people use something as positive as livejournal to bully others. She finds it unnerving that people can present a completely false picture of themselves online because of the absence of face to face contact in the relationship. To some extent I feel that too. I'd be very nervous about meeting an online friend in person but I think I'm brave enough to try it now. However, I've kept my flist tight and close partly through fear so perhaps I'm at less risk than most.
Also inflicted a bit of 'Press Gang' geekery on the friend I met in the evening :) Always cheers me up!
Oh well, better go and get ready for another working week...
