Better late then never...
Apr. 10th, 2006 07:50 pmAfter many angry outbursts in the direction of my PC, I finally managed to burn a compilation CD and give it to my friend as a birthday gift. Her birthday was in November so it's only taken me four months to work out how to do it! In the end I worked out that it was best to ignore AheadNero altogether and use Windows Media Player. The idea was to compile a CD of tracks which would remind her of uni and I chose the following tunes:
Baby D - Let me be your fantasy
Backstreet Boys - Backstreet's back
Basement Jaxx - Where's your head at
Britney Spears - Hit me baby one more time
Destiny's Child - Bug a boo
Lovestation - Teardrops
Misteeq - All I want
SL2 - On a ragga tip
PJ and Duncan AKA - Lets get ready to rhumble
Republica - Ready to go
Reprazent & Roni Size - Heroes (This wasn't a good choice, she didn't even know what it was!)
Scott Garcia - Its a London thing
Liquid - Sweet harmony
The Chemical Brothers - Setting sun
The Prodigy - Out of space
Now I know what I'm doing everyone will be getting a compilation CD for their next birthday! *evil laughter*
I've probably said this before but I can't figure out why the actual track 'Their Law' is on the Prodigy's singles collection of the same name. As far as I can tell it's the only track on the album proper (disc 1 - disc 2 is remixes) which was never released as a single. Maybe the band particularly like the track? I think it's OK but I don't rate it as being one of their best album tracks.
My wish list now includes an animated icon of Keith Flint starting the race in the Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) video. I'm going to have to improve my icon making abilities and buying a functional mouse would probably be a good start!
Now back on to a more familiar topic, namely Press Gang actor spottings. Before I went out on Saturday I watched Julia Sawalha in the penultimate two episodes of 'Faith in the Future' on ITV3. They were originally broadcast in 1998 and I can quite clearly remember watching them first time around. Julia played the character Hannah from 1991 to 1998 taking her from 'Press Gang' to 'Chicken Run'. I've found it interesting comparing the style of acting she used when playing Hannah in comparison to the way she played the roles of Lynda and Saffy. In many ways she was leading a double life in the early 90s. On one hand, playing unconventional characters in critically acclaimed shows and on the other playing an ordinary girl in a very conventional British sit-com. Julia was such an icon to girls of my generation (despite actually being more than a decade older) it's difficult for me to imagine that todays teenagers probably don't have a clue who she is! I wonder who the equivilent is today? An American starlet like Lindsay Lohan or Misca Barton I guess.
My next sub topic is post modern 'Press Gang' spottings. A couple of weeks ago I spotted Julia Sawalha in the episode of 'Comedy Connections' about 'Drop the Dead Donkey'. They were actually talking about Geoff Rawle who starred in DTDD and also in 'Faith in the Future' and a still photo of Julia with Geoff and Lynda Bellingham was shown. I actually watched that episode of 'Comedy Connections' because I thought they'd show Paul Reynolds who appeared alongside DTDD star Neil Pearson in the ill fated TV adaption of 'Trevor's World of Sport' but they didn't (the writers must still be trying to forget about that) so spotting Julia made it worth watching. I now want to buy all five series of DTDD on DVD though as I've been reminded of Damien Day's hilarious stunts!
Slightly off topic there but who cares! My second post modern 'Press Gang' spotting is very random and came in a very unexpected place namely, 'A Tribute to Smash Hits'. I flicked on to the programme at the exact moment it started talking about Chesney Hawkes and they showed (wait for it) the video to his ironically named (only) hit single 'The One and Only'. The video included snippets from the film 'Buddys Song' in which Chesney starred and lo and behold there was Lee Ross. How random is that! A clip of a film, in a clip of a video in a clip show!
In other news, the second episode of 'Green Wing' was good but not as good as the first. I haven't watched anything appart from a bit of 'Hollyoaks' since I arrived back yesterday. There will probably be a post about 'Hollyoaks' in the very near future. That'll really put Cardiff Bloke off of reading my journal!
I've really been enjoying reading the fan fic challenge on 'Holding On'. It's a shame I haven't got time on my hands at present or I'd definitely put pen to paper. I haven't written a fan fic for five years. Unfortunately, since starting work in Personnel I seem to have lost the ability to write decent prose. I think this is as a result of writing simple, clear instructions all day every day. You must bring your passport to Personnel before 12 noon on Monday, kind of thing.
