Yawn!

Before I start this update properly I'd better explain that I'm knackered, having had only 3 hours sleep last night. If some of this post doesn't make a lot of sense that's the reason.

I spent Saturday night celebrating a uni friend's 24th birthday and it was so much fun. Most night outs seem to involve some kind of minor disaster which tarnishes the whole celebration for everyone, however Saturday night was mishap free. No one got lost, argued, fell over or suffered a 'wardrobe malfunction'. The choice of venues had a lot to do with it. We started off in a Mediterrainian Restaurant in Clapham which we'd been to before. As our group was large we had to chose from a £16.50 set 'party menu'. Initially, we'd been dubious about this, as set menus can often be awful, but that was before they started bringing the food out. First there were shared starters of garlic bread, salad, spicy ribs and aubergine dumplings. Then we had a choice of eight main courses. After that we were stuffed but desert and coffee was still to come. We were also each given a complementary shot of Limoncello (not sure whether I spelt that correctly, so apologies if I didn't). Certainly not your average set menu! I chose vegetarian lasagne and chocolate mousse which were both lovely although I wished I'd chosen the salmon after seeing the guy next to me's meal.

The undisputed highlight of the meal was that Daniel Beddingfield was sitting a few tables away with a really stunning girl. He was wearing a tracksuit and looking really skanky while the girl was dressed up and looked fantastic. A real famous person! I guess it's not really suprising as Clapham is quite trendy these days but everyone was still very excited.

After the restaurant we went on to a bar/club called 'The Artesian Well' which is near Vauxhall. It's really just a pub with a couple of small dance floors but at £5 to get in it's very good value for the Clapham area. Also, they play house music rather than the normal cheesey stuff you tend to get on a Saturday night. I'm not a massive house music fan but it was a lot better than Student Union style cheese. The birthday girl, however, loves house and ended up dancing on a raised platform with her boyfriend. No one tried to chat me up, but as the clientele appeared to consist mainly of 18 year old Aussie backpackers I don't think I missed much. My friends pointed out that we were some of the oldest people there but in my opinion that's not a bad thing. I spent three years being groped on dancefloors when I was a student and it's quite nice to be left alone to dance now I'm old!

I got back to my friend's flat at 3am and by 6am the bright sunshine had woken me up. That's why I'm knackered now.

This afternoon I went to the Streatham Kite Festival with a couple of friends. The Kite Festival is a really good idea. Basically, anyone can turn up to Streatham Common and fly a kite. There were kites of all shapes and sizes and despite the severe lack of wind most of them seemed to be flying well. Additionally, there were kite display teams to watch for people who needed a rest from all the running around trying to achieve lift off! My friends had three kites and by far the most sucessful was 'the worlds smallest kite' which flew around ten metres high despite having an area of only 10 cm squared. It mostly appeared to be dads doing the hard work in the other groups which reminded me of when we were kids and my dad bought a kite for us. I don't think we ever got a go but he and grandad had hours of fun!

I'm now the proud owner of the two disk version of 'Their Law' The Prodigy singles collection. I really only brought it because it included the Pendulum remix of Voodoo people. It interests me that the flop single 'Baby's got a Temper' doesn't appear on the CD but the (disturbingly surreal) video is included on the DVD. Also the contents of the first EP (What Evil Lurks) don't appear which is a shame as they're the only singles I've never heard. Oddly, remixed versions of 'Voodoo People' and 'One Love' have been put on the main CD whereas the released versions of all the other tracks have been used. I wonder why they chose those tracks in particular. The strangest track is the Audio Bullys remix of 'Out of Space' which is included on the second CD. The main vocal line has been replaced 'I'm gonna put on my polo shirt, and chase the haters out of Perth'. I know that the Audio Bullys come from Perth and this is probably a line they sung along to the track but it still seems like a strange thing to include in a remix.

I haven't heard from Cardiff Bloke since last Saturday. Hello Cardiff Bloke if you read this I hope you're OK.

Right I'm off to bed.
