Humiliation
Apr. 11th, 2006 09:05 pmI've finally got my backside into gear and purchased a new mouse. Not that I'm lazy or anything but the old one had been knackered for about 18 months. My new toy is sleek, black and optical so theres no ball to get clogged up. At the moment the rollerball in the middle isn't working as I need to download some software. Plenty of opportunity for everything to go horribly wrong there!
My beautiful new mouse has already been the cause of an embarrasing moment for me. I bought the mouse in Dixons and afterwards decided to have a quick look in New Look. Unfortunately, the Dixons assistant hadn't deactivated the security tag and the alarm went off as soon as I entered New Look. I had to empty my shopping bag and my handbag to prove that I hadn't pinched anything. Fortunately, it was 5.15pm so the shop was quite empty but if anyone I knew had seen me I would've gone red as a beetroot!
The next step is to buy a new mouse mat. I think a trip to Paperchase is in order.
It's very cold here at the moment and the large hole in the corner of this room isn't helping matters. The roof is leaking (two tiles have gone porous according to dad) and water is dripping into my parents' bedroom when it rains. To patch this problem my dad has put a bucket in the roof cavity to the side of this room (which is a loft conversion) to catch the drips. The bucket needs to be emptied everyday so he's left a big hole for ease of access. This means that I'm pretty much sitting outside. Brrrr.
I'm now on leave from work until next Thursday 20th April. By the time I return to work I aim to have two of my three assignments completed. I started one of them ages ago and the other is a CPD log so they shouldn't be too traumatic. To celebrate my going on leave, my colleague and I spent most of today re-organising the dead files. We'd been given a new filing cabinet so we sorted stuff that was in 12 drawers into 15. Previously, the stuff had been so crammed it was near impossible to get anything in or out. A strangely satisfying bit of work that.
