Hotels (real and fictional)
Jan. 20th, 2006 09:25 pmI've booked a hotel for myself and Cardiff bloke to stay in over the last weekend of the February half term :) After a lot of worry and spending my lunch hours trawling through hundreds of hotel reviews we've decided to go and stay in the hotel next to his office! Fortunately, his office is in the Brecon Beacons not central Cardiff. The hotel looks lovely. Cardiff bloke has eaten there before and says that the food is f**king excellant but I'm not sure we'll be making much use of the spa facilities! £199 is a lot for two nights, especially when you add meals and my train fare, but I haven't been on holiday since 2001 so I feel I deserve a treat.
Took a break from revision last night to watch Hotel Babylon. Thought it was quite good although Tamsin Outhwaite seemed to be losing the battle to hide her London accent much of the time. Dexter Fletcher was good. He didn't have much to do but the Radio Times says that next weeks episode centres around his character so I'll be tuning in again. I liked the show itself. It was, as a predicted, glossy and trashy but I like a bit of trash TV every now and again. Tamsin and her dodgy accent aside, the cast is great. I've liked Emma Pierson for ages (ever since she snogged my sister's boyfriend's best mate in Grange Hill), Max Beasley is always good value and it was good to see Natalie Mendoza representing Australia rather than a washed up ex-Neighbours or Home and Away star. It was interesting watching the camera angles used to try and disguise the fact that Dexter is significantly shorter than Max Beasley. When he threatened the guy from 'Queer as Folk' he had to look up to look him in the eye. Reminds me of the fact that in 'The Tribe' Ebony only threatened people when she or they were sitting down!
Not good news on the Grandad front. The wardens have told him that unless he gets a home help he won't be able to stay in his sheltered accomodation any more. Everyone's been suggesting a home help to him for years but he always refuses because he doesn't want to pay. He then complains constantly that the state gives him way too much money and he doesn't have anything to spend it on! I can understand why he doesn't want a stranger coming into his home but I know that he'd rather stay in his bungalow than go into an old folks home. I wish we could have him come and live here but we just don't have the space. We've got no downstairs loo or bathroom (the upstairs loo doesn't work very well either, but that's another story entirely) and our ground floor is crammed full as it is.
Better go. I'm having my hair highlighted tomorrow and I need to decide which revision to take with me!
