I don't believe in God. I never had a religious upbringing which may explain why. My Dad was brought up in the Church of England (he was confirmed and everything) and my Mum got involved with the United Reformed Church when she was a teenager, but they'd both given up on it all by the time I came along. My parents didn't even get married in Church (they got married in a hideous 70's Registry Office wearing brown suede suits, but more of that another time). Additionally, my sister and I were never baptized as the URC believe that people should be old enough to understand what they're signing up for before they commit themselves to the Church. I think I was getting towards the end of Junior School when I realised that I was a doubter and when I went to Uni and lived with some very committed Christians I became sure that I didn't believe. As I don't believe in God I don't believe in heaven and hell. I think that this is our one chance to experience what the world has to offer and if at all possible to try and make it a better place.
Despite my personal feelings I'm not entirely against religion. Cardiff bloke and Cardiff ex are completely opposed. I am to some extent but I also think that religion can make people very happy and gives people an opportunity to socialise. My Christian friends always seem to be surrounded by loads of really lovely people who they've met at Church.
This isn't finished. I'll come back to it later. Blame Plymouth bloke. I got distracted talking to him on MSN!
