Being Happy
Apr. 8th, 2005 10:39 pmIt would be fair to say that I'm happy with my life at the moment. Even though work was difficult today I'm not unhappy this evening. When I was out with my rag friends the other week I was shocked by how unhappy most of them are. OK, so I don't have a very well paid job, I'm not in a proper relationship and my social life isn't up to much but I don't really have anything to be unhappy about. I was talking about this to a colleague at work today and she suggested that maybe everyone was unhappy because they had high expectations which hadn't been realised since they left uni. This is probably true. I never had high expectations of what would happen after to me after uni. I always knew that I wasn't cut out for a high flying job in the City or anything like that and I always understood that I would have to start at the bottom in order to get anywhere as I previously had little work experience. I'm not all that depressed about still being at home with my parents either as I'm only 24 and I know that I am capable of living on my own, I just can't afford to at present. Saying that I probably should do more with my life. I should probably save up and travel the world or go and volunteer to teach in Africa or somthing, but I will do one day. For the moment I'm just concentrating on becoming a good administrator and hopefully my skills will transfer if I ever go on a working holiday.
My exercise and diet kick is kind of going OK. I've done an exercise DVD each evening this week apart from tonight as my calves are now feeling really sore. Today I also had a sausage sandwich for lunch as we were late down and they'd sold out of jacket spuds and salad and most of the other sarnies weren't things I like. I think the weight loss will be a slow process, but at least I'm trying. Tomorrow I'm going shopping to buy a pair of trainers which don't give me blisters so that I can start doing some proper exercise.
Haven't watched much TV this week. Saw the last half hour of Footballer's Wives. Getting a bit bored with that now, to tell you the truth. Might buy the first series of 'Arrested Development' on DVD as it makes me laugh more that most things I've seen recently.
Paul Robinson is back in 'Neighbours'. What a nostalgia trip! He's still evil and Stefan Denis plays the role so well. I'll have to remember to watch out for the 20th anniversary episode so that I can see which of the other ex stars return. I know it'll never happen but I really wish Kylie and Jason would return.
I'm now reading David Starkey's book '6 Wives - The Queens of Henry VIII'. It's interesting and I'm learning a lot. I'll be reading it for a while though as I'm only up to the wedding of Henry's first wife Catherine of Aragon to his younger brother Arthur. Henry's just a Duke at the moment.
