Let me explain my reasoning for this. I can't stand conventional love songs. They're normally too slow and completely over the top. 'Take me to Heaven' is one of my favourite love songs. Partly because its by early drum and bass/hardcore group Baby D which means that it is very fast and not at all 'first dance at a wedding that my parents might be tempted to join in with' like, but also because it is very understated. The few words explain what being in love is like without making the listener feel sick. Another of my favourites is 'It Must be Love' by Madness which although soppier and slower than Baby D (and I'm sure it has been used as first dance accompaniment at many weddings, and my parents may be tempted to join in) it's still understated but effective.

Every Sunday afternoon whilst she is cooking the Sunday dinner my mum listens to a programme on Radio 2 which is presented by a guy called Ed Stewart. He plays a mixture of songs from before WW2 to the present and they're nearly all love songs. Some of the 50s and 60s ones amuse me as they've got really depressing lyrics, but are set to happy music. The world of popular music is a strange place.
