So here we are in 2005. I feel old!
I've been back in London for nearly four months now. I know this because next week I'm having my 16 week probation review at work. How sad am I?!
I'm quite happy right now. Living at home is a bit rubbish but I know it's not forever and it's a nice break after the chaos of Plymouth.
Went and had a pizza in London with 3 of the ex rag girls on Friday night. We were having a late celebration for my 24th birthday which was on January 14th. It was good to see them again. I hadn't seen one of them since November as she is so busy at work and has such a hellish commute each day. I was dismayed to learn that another will probably be moving in with her lovely new boyfriend at the end of this academic year. Another one bites the dust! I'll be the only single person left soon, I'll have to start hanging around with Tracey again, at least she's still flying the flag for singledom!
Might be going down to see Cardiff bloke this weekend. We arranged it a week ago but he has now gone suspiciously quiet. I know that he's on a training course in Bedford right now and that he was planning on collecting me on the way back round the M25, then driving me to Cardiff for the weekend. The thought of this fills me with dread for the following reasons:
(a) He is bound to get lost. He has been here before but not for a good few years so the outlook is not good.
(b) I hate long car journeys. I'll get bored and/or travel sick and the traffic will be really bad because it's Friday :( It doesn't even save much of the train fare because I still have to pay to come back.
(c) It might involve Cardiff bloke meeting my parents and he suffers from parentophobia (not sure if that is real condition but if it was Cardiff bloke would be an easy diagnosis). My mum says he's welcome as long as he doesn't "fall down the stairs or break anything". I feel that this could be a tall order even before he's had a drink!
Even so I want to see Cardiff bloke as we haven't met up since September. Just before I went for the interview for the job I'm doing now. It seems like a very long time ago.
The other week we had quite a few long text conversations. At one point he sent me a message saying "Move to Cardiff get a place together with me and my dog and get married in 2008". Shortly after he sent it he sent another retracting the marriage proposal. Two years ago I predicted that he'd ask me to marry him, I can read his drunken whims like a book!
I jokingly asked my ex housemate what sort of bridesmaid dress she would like if I ever got married. She said she'd like anything as long as it was nice and didn't make her bum look big. I've since decided that I will put my bridesmaids in trouser suits. I'm not sure what colour yet though. It shouldn't look too bad as I won't be wearing a bridal gown. White makes me look washed out and besides, I think it would be ever so slightly hypocritical of me to marry in white!
I've just finished reading 'Thief of Time' and I've now moved on to 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. 'Night Watch' is the next Terry Pratchett on the list and I'm particularly looking forward to reading it as people on the Terry Pratchett websites I visit say that it is his "masterpiece". When I bought THGTTG I also got David Starkeys 'Six Wives of Henry the Eighth' and a book about Baghdad during the war which was written by the same lady who wrote 'The Bookseller of Kabul'. That lot will keep me busy for a while, especially the Henry the Eighth one which is huge (and I know what happens at the end!)
