Plymouth is OK I guess. I've been here for eight weeks now, although it seems much longer. I'm living in a shared house in Mutley (catch the pigeon, catch the pigeon etc. etc. and yes the Mutley residents association actually uses a picture of the cartoon dog as it's logo!) along with a journalist who works for BBC Radio Devon and follows the Ba'hai religion, a mechanical engineer who used to be a funky house DJ and was one of Mixmag's faces of Ibiza 1995, a girl who works for the Inland Revenue and is always at the gym, a shop assistant and a customer service rep. The housemates are fine but, unfortunately, the house isn't. Everything keeps going wrong, all of the time. In fact I seriously fear that I'll arrive home from work one day to find a heap of rubble where the house once stood!

So much has happened since I last updated my poor neglected journal that I'll never be able to fit it into one entry. Everything is changing at the moment. I started a new job and moved 200 miles from London to Plymouth, one of the ex raggies started a new job and moved from Cardiff to Hampshire, my friend Cat started a new job and moved from Sussex to London, my friend Tracey started a new job. Even most of my internet friends seem to be starting new jobs and moving on. It must be our age I guess. It's a shame that all my friends seem to be moving to London or the South East when I've moved miles away from anywhere.

Since I've been in Plymouth it's really hit me how much of an outpost this is. The nearest large place is Exeter and that's over an hour away on the train. Life's not too bad down here though despite the fact that the city's a building site at the moment. I live 20 minutes walk from the office and a couple of minutes from a really useful selection of local shops so I won't go hungry or be able to use public transport strikes as an excuse to have a day off of work!

More on life in Plymouth to follow...
