I'm Scared...
May. 15th, 2004 09:09 pmOnly one day to go until I pack my bags and move to Plymouth. The houseshare I really liked never got back to me so I'm staying with one of the people from the office for the forseeable future. Oddly, I'm not scared about the job at all. Even though it's a management post, and I've never done anything like it before, I'm pretty confident that I'll be OK. It's just the whole finding a place to live aspect which is freaking me out. I wish I could afford to employ one of those professional relocater people to sort it all out for me! First impressions are just so important in finding a houseshare; I'm terrified that I'll give the wrong one and put any potential housemates off.
It was very strange leaving work on Friday night. They'd done a collection and presented me with a card, a mug and absurdly an iron! Everyone came up and said goodbye to me and I ended up being the last to leave the office. Even though I'd cleared my desk and taken down the aide memoirs I'd pinned up, it still looked like 'my' desk. It'll be very strange if I ever go back there and someone else is sitting at that desk. I gave everyone on my team a novelty pen and a pack of colourful Post It notes (we're only allowed to order boring pale yellow ones as an 'anti fraud' measure) which they really seemed to like. The other teams in the office will be pretty bemused to see the Rating Admin team all using colourful pens decorated with feathers and little model animals!
Tracey popped round to say goodbye on Wednesday night. She was in a much better mood than last time I saw her, largely due to the fact she's now gone part time at 'the green and orange place' and is in the running for a really good job at the football club she supports passionately. She's now been at 'the green and orange place' for nearly seven years which could have been my fate had I stayed at home for uni like her. I hope she gets a job she likes soon as she would be so much happier in a career not involving paint and wallpaper!
