Jun. 11th, 2003 10:00 pmWork's still going well. I'm losing loads of info which I'll have to be carefull I don't bore people to tears with in the future! Quite a lot of my time is spent entering data about changes in ownership of domestic properties on to a database. We work from forms which are forwarded to us by solicitors and some of them are terrible. Some of them don't even include the address of the property in question and loads of them have been filled out incorrectly. I've also done some filing, some envelope stuffing and sent some letters to solicitors. Once I've settled in I'll have to take turns on the post and switchboard rotas. The switchboard is computerised and very high tech looking. I'm a bit daunted by the prospect of using it but everyone in the office including all the bosses has to take their turn.
The train journey isn't too bad. I've been reading 'The Quiet American' by Graham Greene which has helped pass the time. I'm really enjoying the book, I've found it much easier to get into than 'Brighton Rock.' The fact that it's set in Vietnam helps as my time with my man got me interested in all things Vietnamese. Quite scary to think that the civilians being killed in the paddy fields could have been members of his family though. One of the reasons I'm looking forward to seeing him is that I'll finally get a chance to ask him what he found out about the fate of his family when he visited the village his grandad came from.
I'm not sure what I want to read next. Waterstones are doing 3 for 2 on the books in the BBC's 'Big Read' top 100 so I might get some after pay day. I know I want 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' but I'm not sure about the other two.
Last week of 'Cutting It'and 'Friends' next week then I guess we enter the traditional summer rubbish TV zone. I've completely lost interest in 'Big Brother' but I know what's going on as my office manager gets updates texted to her mobile!
I've tried a new bit of technology tonight, nothing too technical, just listening to the live feed from Kiss 100. A tribal house programme has been on which I haven't enjoyed. Maybe I'll try a station I haven't heard of before next time. Maybe a foreign one, I'd quite like to find out what American radio is like.
