First day at work.
Jun. 9th, 2003 09:21 pmI thought I'd better update my poor neglected livejournal on this seminal day in my life.
My first day in my first full time job :)
It wasn't the most exciting day I've ever had but you always have to do boring stuff when you start at a new place I guess. We spent the morning filling out millions of forms including the scary official secrets act as well as the usual next of kin and pay details etc.
In the afternoon we went downstairs and learnt to make alterations to database entries. Basically we were typing in details from forms submitted to the Inland Revenue by solicitors on behalf of people who've moved house. It was quite straight forward but I can tell that things are going to get more complicated from here on in.
I'm still at the over excited stage. The fact that I get my own desk, phone, computer, set of drawers etc. makes me happy.
The offices are on floors 1-3 of a three story block. They're open plan and eerily quiet so I guess everyone was working hard today.
Tomorrow I get the guided tour of the building which includes meeting all the people I haven't met already. I also have to watch loads of videos apparantly including one which shows you how to adjust your chair correctly! Sounds like fun! Can't be any worse than the Homebase staff vids though, they've scarred me for life by their sheer awfulness.
Had nice congratulatory emails from my man and several uni friends which made me smile. Hopefully I'll be seeing them all before long. One of them is so clever getting in to do her PhD after her first interview. She's moving to London next year so I'll have another local, if rather busy, friend.
I also had a letter from my pen pal in Edinburgh. She's nearly finished her exams now. I really regret the fact that I never made it up to Edinburgh to see her while she's been at uni. Definitely a wasted opportunity to see a fantastic city with a lovely friend. Maybe she'll move over to Sweden to be with this boyfriend of hers and I'll be able to go out and see her there :)
Got a random message from Cardiff bloke at 2am on Saturday morning telling me he'd just seen someone we both knew at uni. He said 'Still dippy even more than you.' I guess I should take it as a compliment! Haven't told him that I'm wont make it to Cardiff til July yet. By then we'll have been apart for 3 months. It's no good, he'll have to come down here and see me!
