The mastic which seals my bath to the wall has gone a bit mouldy. It's not that bad compared to some bathrooms I've experienced in my time, just the corner and the bit behind the mixer tap. However, I decided that it was best to reseal it now before it got too bad. I decided to sort it out this weekend. All did not go well. First of all I failed to get up on Saturday morning. Then I got distracted watching the dreadful Lindsay Lohan movie "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen". By the time I got to Homebase to buy the equipment required it was 5pm. Prior to me deciding to undertake the job I'd looked at one of those 'how do I..." sites on the internet and it advised it would take around 6 hours for the mastic to dry. The can of mastic said it should be left for 24 hours. Taking into account the time it would take to thoroughly remove the old sealant and clean the mouldy bits properly I worked out that I would not have time to do the job in time to have a shower on Monday morning before work. I will now be doing it this coming weekend instead. That serves me right for being lazy and then failing to check the instructions properly.
Today I attended a really interesting talk about the history of my esteemed organisation. It was given by a member of staff who had worked there for over 30 years and is retiring next week. Around 40 people attended from many different teams. Some of Englands important records have been very lucky to survive. Public record keeping didn't become a really serious priority until the 1830s, before that it was all a bit chaotic. The experience was slightly tarnished by the fact that I'd forgotten the golden rule of spending time in public archives - take a jumper! It was freezing and I only had a linen jacket. I really should have worn socks too.
This evening I went to open evening at the local adult college where I am considering taking piano lessons. It wasn't quite how I was expecting things to be. I thought it would be a huge open day like the ones we had at the college where I used to work. In actual fact it was just one chap in a room right at the top of the building in the far corner. Fortunately, I wasn't the only person there. I met a very nice woman who was enquiring about intermediate guitar classes. I now have a decision to make. Do I start classes now or wait until after Christmas? I'm sure I want to do it, the question is when.
All in all, I'm a bit frustrated at the moment. Work is still good, but the rest of my life is a bit pants. I've been lucky over the past few weeks. Friends have visited and then my sister visited rather unexpectedly last Thursday. Now I have nothing planned for ages. Even Brownies isn't starting until the end of September this year as Tawny Owl is on an extended holiday in Canada. My friend's husband is trying to organise a fundraising dinner (he's running the Royal Parks Half Marathon again in October) and it's an absolute nightmare getting everyone in the same place. In between people's Spanish, salsa, netball, yoga, ultimate frisbee, husband visiting and work commitments it's really difficult. I feel sad that I don't have anyone to go out with on a casual basis. I don't have anyone I can just ring up and decide to go to the cinema that evening. I have to book people months in advance. Woe is me!
The internet dating isn't going well either. All the people I email lose interest in me after the second email.
On the plus side, I've finally taken up the recommendation of
hestia8 and started watching Dubplate Drama on Myspace. I'm really enjoying it. More so because DJ Zinc and Dynamite MC suddenly turned up in Series 2, Episode 2. Very strange seeing old skool d'n'b on a series very much focused on up to date Grime type music but very, very cool. I don't think there are many MCs around who are as good as Dynamite MC. Probably not any who come from Gloucester anyway!
