I must look like I need saving...
Jul. 21st, 2007 10:18 pmNo sign of my exam results yesterday but my letterbox did contain a leaflet inviting me to the regional conference of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Maybe they pre-empted the misery I fear I will experience when my results finally do arrive. In fact I'm starting to worry slightly. That was the third leaflet I'd been given within the last month urging me to join a church. The first was handed to me as I walked down the High Street, the second by a random little old lady on the bus and the most recent was left in my letterbox. Hmmmm. Do you ever feel like someone is trying to tell you something...
Went to Richmond with mum today to take some photos of the house my great aunt grew up in. My aunt is going to visit her in Canada in September and will be taking the photos with her. Had a walk around the area, as by coincidence my dad's dad (the great aunt's brother) grew up around the corner from my mum (obviously some 30 years before). Had a look at mum's old primary school and the flat she was born in. Back in the 1940s when mum was born the properties in the area were inhabited by ordinary working class people. Now they are worth ridiculous amounts of money and have Lotuses parked outside. We also walked past the house where my best friend from school's mum grew up. Although my friend's parents are a fair bit younger than mine they knew one another through a church youth group. In fact my friend's parents met at a church drama group of which my dad was a member. My friend's dad still treads the boards from time to time but the thought of my dad doing am-dram is something I can't quite come to terms with! I find it quite sad that my parents and my friend's parents had to move away from their home town because they couldn't afford to live there. Although the town we live in now is OK, it's nowhere near as nice as Richmond.
Also, had a fairly chaotic contact lens fitting. My opticians have been taken over by another firm and it seems to be causing them a few problems at present. They had lost my prescription card and as a result had no idea what strength of lens I was trying. I'm now stuck without a proper supply of lenses for another week. Tut. It's a good job I wear my glasses most of the time and only really use the lenses for socialising.
On the subject of socialising, I've been invited to the Soho Cider Festival this Thursday. Not to sure about hitting the cider on a school night but I'm sure I'll manage to pop along for few sips.
The mystery of the random Facebook friending has been solved. This requires some explanation. Just before last Christmas I went to Richmond (there again!) to meet up with some people I used to work with at Homebase when I was doing my A-Levels. The gathering merged with another gathering which involved some of the same people. Gathering number two was celebrating the birthday of a guy who was in the year above me at school and who starred in many school plays in which my lack of acting or singing talent left me sitting in the back row of the chorus. He also dated a girl who was at that time my friend (but isn't any more, that however is another story) so we got to know one another a bit. When I logged into Facebook yesterday I noticed that said chap had friended my younger sister. Hmmmm. I wasn't aware that he knew my sister but thought maybe he'd bumped into her whilst out and about as they live in the same town. However, I had a message today from my sist to say that it turned out that he'd friended the wrong sister. Mystery solved. I'm a bit miffed that he'd forgotten my name though. My sister, by the way, is keeping him as a friend anyway. In my opinion this is clearly cheating!
I've decided that I like DanceX. I'm horribly jealous of all the dancers involved as they are so talented but I enjoyed tonight's episode none the less. Whenever Rana is on the screen I can't take my eyes off of her. She is so pretty and shiny and her hair is amazing. It's a good job it was on BBC1 though as my TV reception went berserk and BBC1 was the only channel I could get a decent picture for. It hasn't been that bad for ages. I guess a lot of my neighbours had decided to stay in and watch TV because of the terrible weather and the communal ariel couldn't take the strain.
And finally, to all the people complaining about having to watch the Big Brother Housemates sleeping during the afternoon here's a suggestion: do something other than watch the Big Brother Live Feed during the afternoon. Even if you can't be bothered to move from your armchair I'll think you'll find that there are several other channels you could watch. Some are provided by an organisation called the BBC and tend to be rather good (although entering any of their competitions may not be a good plan).
