Another week, another journal entry...
May. 27th, 2006 11:06 pmWell, the good news is that I've nearly finished one of my assignments. The bad news is that I've got two more to do :( At least I've got a bit of extra time this week as it's Bank Holiday Monday and there's no Brownies on Tuesday due to half term.
I've managed to get The Sims Superstar running on my PC at last so that's distracting me from everything I should be doing. I'd forgotten how time evaporates when you're playing The Sims.
Remembered to watch 'The Smoking Room' on Thursday night to see, what I believe to be, Paul Reynolds' most recent TV appearance. I've seen it before but it was worth tuning in again. Of course Paul holds his own amongst a cast of some of the best comic actors in the UK. It's a shame that he always seems to get occasional guest roles rather than regular parts. I think he'd fit well into something like 'The Smoking Room' which has strong individual characters. I also think he'd be good in Eastenders. Perhaps Lee Ross will put in a good word now he's on the cast! Talking of Lee Ross I'll be interested to see how he fits into Albert Square and what storylines they have in store for him. He's playing the estranged husband of Dianne Parish's character and I think she's a great actor so hopefully there'll be plenty for Lee to get his teeth into.
On the subject of ex Press Gangers on TV, Lucy Benjamin will be a contestant on Celebrity X Factor this summer. I'm fairly sure that the show will flop completely as it's being pitched against Big Brother but hopefully it'll make Lucy a bit of cash as her career hasn't exactly been on fire recently. I have to say that Lucy has aged well compared to the other Press Gang alumni who've been on TV recently. Appart from having had her hair straightened she hardly looks any different.
Had my hair cut today and then went shopping in Kingston. Got two jackets (one casual and one for work) and a pair of cheap work shoes (£18 in New Look). I didn't intend to get cheap shoes but all the other shops only had open toed or stilletoe heels neither of which are suitable when you work in a very old building with uneven floors, lots of stairs and no lift.
I'm not watching Big Brother this year. At all. I don't really need to as I get an update about what's going on from my work colleagues every morning.
Mum and Dad are off to Bath for the week on Monday. Unfortunately, we got a phone call from the hospital last night to say that Grandad has had to have another blood transfusion as his blood count was very low and we've been warned that there will now be a rapid deterioration in his condition. This news has put a major dampner on mum and dad's holiday spirit. The break was planned before we knew Grandad was ill and they've been wanting to go to Bath for ages so I hope they still manage to enjoy themselves. I really hope nothing happens with Grandad whilst they're away as I'd be worried if they had to drive back in an emergency. Also, it would be left to me and my sister to make any decisions and I don't feel ready for that.
Prince Phillip has said in 'The Telegraph' that opening and closing ceremonies at events such as The Olympic Games are boring and a waste of time. For once, I agree with him. I always think the money could be better spent elsewhere.
I nearly bought an MP3 player today but I changed my mind at the last minute. After writing this, I'm going to have a look and see if I can find it cheaper on the internet. It'll be so good to have something to listen to on the bus so I don't have to put up with screaming kids and people arguing with the bus driver every morning.
One of these days I'm going to write that post about 'Hollyoaks' I keep meaning to do. I've really been enjoying it over the past couple of weeks. Ooooh, and last week's Dr Who was excellant. Unbenown to me, my dad had taped it so I watched it on Tuesday night and I've decided it's my favourite episode of the 'new' Dr Who. Full of action and suspense and it kept me guessing right to the end. Tonight's episode was good too (although 'London' was obviously Cardiff again - I looked up the street name afterwards and it's in Penarth near the docks) but in my opinion last weeks was better.
