i_just_hide: (Prodigy - Wind it Up - Leeroy)
I intended to update from uni on Monday evening but I woke up with a stomach bug and had my first day off sick since April 2005. Typical that I would get ill on uni day. As a result I have to spend this weekend catching up this weeks work as well as reading for next week.

Yesterday evening I met up with friends for a meal. During the train journey there I was reading 'Personnel Today' magazine and stumbled across a fairly scary article about the damage writing a blog can do to your career.

http://www.personneltoday.com/Articles/2006/03/21/34506/Blogging+Waste+of+time+or+corporate+tool.htm#ArticleBody

I'm quite paranoid now. Although I'm careful not to include my surname, where I live, where I work or details of anything confidential which happens at work in my LJ. I have posted a photo of myself, my forename and my date of birth which makes it fairly simple to identify me if you knew me in real life. My friends and colleagues all know that I write a blog but they don't know where it's hosted and when Cardiff Bloke tried to find this journal he couldn't so I'm probably being over cautious. Cardiff Bloke obviously knows me very well and is also extremely determined when he sets his mind on something so unless someone is specifically searching LJ using one of my interests as criteria I assume they wouldn't be able to find their way here. Even so I'm going to be even more careful about what I write here from now on. More TV and less substance I'm afraid. My job is very sensitive so if I write anything vaguely controversial and someone links it to me I could end up in serious trouble. I might even be really sad and put the suggested disclaimer in my user info page.

Anyway, enough of that. The meal last night was OK. As usual it was great to catch up with everyone. The restaurant was alright but I didn't rate my main course much. My orange cheesecake desert almost made up for it though. Got to see my friend's engagement ring which is very pretty. Subtle but very sparkly. They're not wasting any time getting married. Having got engaged on Valentines' Day they've booked the church and are now interviewing potential caterers. I'm so looking forward to the wedding as I love weddings and I haven't been to one since September 2003.

I've actually had my own wedding meticulously planned since I was about 10 years old. Back then if you'd told me that I'd still be a spinster at 25 I would've been horrified. I thought I'd be married before I was 20! My problem is that I'd like to organise a huge wedding but I'm not so sure about the happily ever after stuff.

Grandad is very poorly again. Fortunately, one of the wardens at the sheltered housing has managed to convince him to accept a carer. The carer has to contact her to let them into the bungelow so Grandad can't just ignore them. It's good news for my parents who were spending half their lives washing and drying his bed covers. On a selfish note it's good news for me as there is more spare washing machine time for my laundry to be done.

Better go as my sister is home this weekend and the PC is in 'her' (and I use the term loosely as she hasn't lived here for 5 years) bedroom.
