We were robbed (again!)
Aug. 18th, 2004 10:04 pmYep, it's happened again. A German rider cheated in the Three Day Event so we were demoted to team Bronze and individual Silver. I'm still on about the Olympics of course. Saying that the German lady cheated is probably a bit harsh, it appears that it was all a bit of a muddle, but the fact remains: the judges deducted points from her, then the German team appealed and they gave them back. For a moment it looked like Team GB would be getting their first Gold Medal and then it was cruelly snatched away.
We're doing pretty well for other medals though and it's looking like we will have a few more once the sailing finishes so I guess we can't complain too much.
I've been watching a lot of Gymnastics. The mens individual competition is finishing in the background. I prefer the women's events but this has been an interesting competition to say the least. So many people screwed up in the middle and dropped right out of content. After falling flat on his backside coming off of the vault he performed spectacularly on the high bar (which most of the others had messed up) and beat two Korean guys to the Gold. Hopefully, the women's competition tomorrow will be just as exciting. It would be nice for Svetlana Khorkina to win bearing in mind the fact that her campaign was messed up by an inaccurately adjusted vaulting horse in Sydney, and that she must now be nearing the end of her career. Of course I'll be rooting for the two British girls but there's no way they'll get anything unless all the others fall off of all the apparatus or they're disqualified!
In other news: I'm probably going to resign from the VO and go home at the end of November. I'm not doing very well in my job and I'm certain that I'll have had enough in three months time. Now I just have to find something else to do.
