Feb. 1st, 2004

I turned 23 on 14th of January. It seems like ages ago now even though only 2 weeks have passed.

I was quite disappointed by the number of people who remembered. In fact only two people who I hadn't mentioned it to contacted me so major brownie points to one of my uni friends and my pen pal in Sweden. Everyone else is severely in the dog house right now. I'm not annoyed because I expect gifts or cards or anything, it's just that I make a big effort to remember birthdays/ wedding anniversaries etc. and it would be nice to think that others thought enough of me to remember mine.

My birthday celebrations were quite low key but good fun. I went out for a curry with my parents and my sister on my actual birthday and out for a meal in Kingston with some friends on the following Saturday. Unfortunately, I had a few too many glasses of wine on the Saturday night and spent the Sunday feeling very poorly. I've now decided to give up alcohol. The man of the moment came down and met my parents for the first time. They got on really well, which isn't that much of a suprise as he is very easy to get along with. I still don't know quite where the relationship's going though.

At work things have been hectic. My manager has had a few days off recently so I've been in charge which is good experience but leaves me feeling frazzled. It's not that my staff are badly behaved, don't know what they're doing or don't do what they're told, it's just the pressure of having to think about what 9 people need to get done in a day not just me like it was before.

Also, we had our annual dusting of snow this week. It was drizzling slightly when I left work on Wednesday night, by the time I turned the corner into the main road (about 25 metres walk from my office door) I was in a blizzard! I got soaked walking to the station and when I got there my train had been cancelled as it had broken down at Earlsfield so I had to wait 45 minutes for the next one. Fortunately there are lots of coffee shops near Wimbledon station so I popped into one and had a hot chocolate and a muffin. I was very cold and wet by the time I got home.

This is the second year running that I've got caught outside in the only snowfall of the year. Next year I hope it snows at night so I wake up to a winter wonderland. Much more civilised! At least I didn't fall on my backside like I did last year though!
