Back to normal...
Oct. 9th, 2010 03:08 amThe period spanning from about 9pm on Friday 17th September 2010 to 4pm on Sunday 3rd October 2010 is going down in history as the stragest, craziest fortnight-and-a-bit in my life so far. This week everything is back to normal (well as 'normal' as it ever is). After a relatively productive week I attended the office quiz last night. Sadly, the occasion marked my worst ever performance in a group quiz. My team came a pitiful 9th out of 15 teams. I ended up being seperated from some of my close colleagues because there were too many of us to make up one team. Their team was first by a long way and the team of another department I'm good friends with were second. The science and history rounds were particularly evil and I wasn't on good form. I insisted that Taunton was in Devon when it's in Somerset (fortunately, I was over-ruled on that one) and I absolutely refused to believe that Paris Hilton was the subject of one of the picture questions. I was proud that I realised that one of the links in the 'linked names' round was that they were all characters in Starlight Express. I wonder if I was the only person who got that right. It must be a pretty niche piece of knowledge. Anyway, after our dismal failure I retreated to the pub with friends from all three teams and ended up staying until closing time. I was good though, I only had two beers. It was quite an odd feeling making my way home on a late train in a totally sober state.
Today, I've been enjoying my first free weekend in months by doing absolutely nothing of note. I did some laundry, went to Tesco and watched the newish Star Trek movie which Lovefilm sent me on 14th July. I've definitely been making good use of my £3.99 a month subscription recently! I thought the movie was fine. I'm not generally a sci-fi fan but it held my interest all the way through and I like the way they've re-vamped the franchise. It fits neatly in the category of 'movies I'm glad I've seen but that I'm not in a hurry to see again'. I wonder what they'll send me next...
I guess I should write about my recent travels before I forget the details. First stop, Vienna, Austria...
( Cut for length... )
