30 Days of TV meme - Day 5 (2nd attempt)
May. 27th, 2010 10:52 pmHmmm, I kind of lost momentum with this meme after Livejournal ate my answer to Day 5. I'm going to persevere though so here's Day 5 - 2nd attempt.
Day 05 - A show you hate
I hate a lot of TV shows, so I'll pick a feweasy select targets to slate.
First and foremost, all ITV 'talent' shows. They are basically 21st century freak shows. Admittedly some of the contestants are very talented but that's such a small part of that sort of programme. They're more about publicity for the judges (who, let's face it, are pretty talentless) than helping the contestants. I despise the way these shows clog up the schedules for 'audition' shows filled with people who know that they're rubbish but just want their 5 minutes of fame. I also despise the fact that they make everyone think that they have the potential to be a 'star' and then humiliate them. It's like the socially acceptable form of bullying. I'll stick to BBC talent shows where the contestants have real talent and the judges offer real constructive criticism.
Secondly, any 'home video' shows. 'You've Been Framed' was funny back in the early 1990s until people started setting stunts up deliberately to win money. 'The Planet's Funniest Animals' and all it's evil spin offs were never, ever funny. Cheap and nasty TV at it's most dire.
Thirdly, any shows which follow police officers at work. Let's all laugh/tut at the common criminals shall we! Someone I was at school with was on one episode being arrested and everyone messaged him on Facebook congratulating him on how funny it was. Aarrgghh! More cheap and nasty TV.
Fourthly, 'Coming of Age' and 'Grownups' which are both totally unfunny sitcoms made and shown on BBC3. They adopt the the idea that anything about sex is inherently funny. It's not. I can't believe that either got a second series.
Finally, all rolling news channels. They just seem to be full of desperate attempts to create news. The production values are minimal to say the least and they keep repeating the same stuff constantly. Waste of time in my opinion. I'm sure the BBC could save a fair amount of cash by scrapping News 24 and just having hourly bulletins on BBC1 and BBC2 like they used to.
( The whole list... )
