How many seasons in one day?
Jul. 24th, 2009 10:26 pmThe British weather appears to have developed some kind of multiple personality disorder. It's been flitting between bright sunshine and pouring rain all day. Just after lunch it suddenly went dark outside and then there was a proper storm with hail and thunder and lightening. It was so spectacular that all my colleagues (the seven who were in the office today) gathered along the window to watch unfortunate people running into the building. Our Director popped out for a lunchtime stroll along river and was caught in it. He was very soggy when he visited the office in the afternoon. I'm really struggling to deal with this stupid weather. I wish it would just make its mind up and be either hot and sunny or cold, windy and rainy. I don't know what to wear and it's difficult to plan what to do. My friend is having a barbeque based birthday party next Saturday so I hope its sorted itself out by then. The last time she had a barbeque for her birthday it tipped it down and we all ended up squashed into her living room practically sitting on one another. I always complain about having a birthday in January because of the weather, but it just goes to show that in the UK you're never safe to count on outdoor celebrations whichever month you were born.
In the absence of anything else decent to watch I sat through most of Hotel Babylon this evening. I really wished I hadn't. It really is dreadful these days. Kellie Bright was guesting in tonights episode as was Denise Van Outen. I've always considered DVO to be a lousy actor. I guess she may be OK in musical theatre roles but in straight roles she doesn't impress me. What with her and Nigel Harman who is frankly awful it wasn't a pleasurable viewing experiencing. Poor Kellie Bright. I've rated her as an actor since her days in The Upper Hand back in the early 1990s. Since then she really hasn't worked enough. I'm guessing the HB pays guest actors well as James Fleet was also featured and I doubt he's short of offers. In the end I turned over and watched Top Gear. It really was that bad.
I know I said this before but I'm going to plug it again. Taking the Flak is an excellent. I laughed my head off at this weeks episode. I really would urge anyone who likes sitcoms with a bit of a satirical edge to take a look. I think it would particularly appeal to anyone (like me) who loved Drop the Dead Donkey.
