I watched Batman Begins this evening. I'm aware that I'm one movie behind the rest of the world but, hey, who cares! I thought it was excellent. Batman was suitably brooding, the special effects were convincing and the action sequences gripping. I could have coped without the first 45 minutes but once it got going I was glued to the screen. I felt rather proud that almost all the principal cast members were British or Irish. Katie Holmes and Morgan Freeman were pretty much the only Americans in major roles and I'll let them off because I like them. It does, however, seem a bit strange that something as American as Batman has almost gone British. On a slight tangent - are there actually any British superheroes? I can't think of any. Anyway, all the normal action movie coincidences were there: it was raining and there were lots puddles when Batman was set on fire, the cute kid was rescued and Batman managed not to kill anyone whilst destroying half the city racing about in the Batmobile. I enjoyed it though. It wasn't meant to be intellectually challanging and it kept me amused for an evening.
