i_just_hide: (Dexter Fletcher - Tube Tales)
I returned home this evening to find my very first BT bill nestled comfortably in my post box amongst the Christmas cards and takeaway ads.  It is for no less than £173.88.  Only £1.38 of this figure is for call charges.  The rest comprises £106.37 to have the line installed, £40.36 line rental and £25.90 VAT.  Granted, they warned me about the installation fee, but I still think it's a rip off.  A line was fitted when the flat was built so all the engineer actually had to do was flick a switch.  However, I incurred the extortionate charge because there hadn't been BT service to the flat before and I'd never had a BT account.  Daylight robbery, that's what it is.  At least the Council Tax people don't seem to want any money yet though.

After last nights post, in which I expressed my gratitude that my neighbours had stopped playing loud music before my bedtime, things took a turn for the worst.  Someone started undertaking some very loud roadworks just down the road.  They finished at about 2am.  Give me strength, or the ability to nod off more easily!

Most of my parents' Christmas decorations have now been put up.  My dad is in a worse state than I thought.  He went over on his ankle and landed on his elbow so he has both a sore foot and a sore arm.  Mum took him to A&E yesterday where they gave him an x ray and proclaimed that the elbow isn't broken, it's just badly bruised.  The only treatment is to rest and put ice on it.  He can't go to work and he's obviously not going to be playing any badminton for a while so he's not very happy to say the least.  I hope he's better before Christmas.

Thank you [profile] katie__pillar for my lovely Xmas card.  Your handwriting is so neat!  Please let me know your address so I can send you one in return.  If you email dragongirlubb at hotmail dot com I'll pop one in the post.

Tomorrow I'm off to somewhere called 'Merton Abbey Mills' with my Wimbledon friend.  I don't really know what's there but my friend reckons there's food which sounds good to me.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get some Christmas shopping done at some point or my family will be very disappointed.
